    Preferred Qualifications


    Scientific Foundation: Hold a Bachelor's degree in microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, or a closely related field.

    BSL-2 Safety: Experience or interest in working with Biosafety Level 2 pathogens.

    Research Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a biomedical research laboratory is preferred.

    Position Summary

    The Huet Lab at UGA (
    ) is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented and motivated research assistant to join our team.

    We delve into the unique biology of apicomplexans, single-celled eukaryotic parasites responsible for diseases like malaria and toxoplasmosis.

    Our research uses a diverse toolbox of genetic, cellular, and biochemical techniques to explore these fascinating organisms, with a particular focus on their organelles.

    We are particularly interested in their single mitochondrion and the apicoplast, a phylum-specific organelle of algal origin).

    Duties/Responsibilities
    Maintain our mammalian cell culture system, including media and buffer preparation.
    Independently operate lab equipment and manage supply stocks by preparing and ordering necessary items. Additionally, troubleshoot equipment, reagent, or supply issues by working with vendors.
    Provide guidance and training in techniques and experimental design to junior researchers, fostering their scientific development.

    Work with PCR, RT-PCR, DNA gel electrophoresis, cloning, and engineering of DNA constructs.
    Perform biochemical assays including SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting.
