    The Shredder Manager reports directly to the Facilities and Operations Manager. The Shredder Manager oversees production and quality control of the shredder operations. Communicates upward and with Maintenance Manager regarding all repair and maintenance problems. Assigns daily duties for shredder operator, maintenance personnel, and cleaners for whom he/she has responsibility for.

    Assists Joint Product Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Regional Environmental Manager and facility and regional Commercial teams with issues pertaining to optimizing physical plant operations.

    Maintains a safe work environment and assists the Regional Safety Engineer(s) in training employees on safety procedures.
    This position operates within somewhat flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the shredder production operation. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increases profits.
    Position requires being involved with all maintenance activities, working alongside others during all projects and activities at the shredder.


    Salary Range:
    $150,000 - $160,000 Annually

    Essential Functions:

    Environmental and Health & Safety Ensures safe work practices and equipment are used at all limes and that documentation, inspections, and current practices are in accordance with corporate safety policies, OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.

    In addition, provides a safe environment for all customers at the shredder.

    Creates Health & Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) with Regional Safety Engineer(s).Ensures all department employees receive timely safety and operational training and that the appropriate documents (signed acknowledgement forms) are prepared.

    Maintain employee files per regional practice.

    Monitors safety program to reduce accident frequency within department, implement new safety ideas/procedures and establish safety goalsResponsible for understanding and monitoring the regulatory environment as it affects this department and our relationship with the regulatory agenciesOperational Performance & Best Management PracticesProvides leadership to department employees on multiple shifts.

    Assigns work schedule for employees under his/her direct supervision in order to run efficiently, at optimal production rates, with minimal overtime.

    Shredder Committee member.
    Back up Shredder operator in emergency situations.

    Equipment & MaintenanceReviews repair and maintenance needs with the Plant Manager and MaintenanceDetermines necessary parts to order and lead times needed to maintain efficient and effective functioning of equipment.

    On a monthly basis, provides management with a 6 month general plan which describes scheduled repairs, upgrades, and major projects.

    Schedule for major projects including manpower, equipment, downtime and time line.
    Manages spare components and wear parts inventory. Issues, tracks and reorder these inventory stores.

    Inventory & Quality ControlEnsures processing and storage of finished goods is done in compliance with internal controls already set in place.

    Implements and maintains an effective, documented Quality Control program focusingon a strong relationship with Commercial and Sales departments.
    Works with internal and customer specs for materials.

    Ensures that reports of any off grade/ off spec materials are discussed with supervisor prior to shipment in order to eliminate consumer quality complaints, avoid downgrades, and eliminate claims.

    Budgeting & ForecastingPrepares and monitors daily production reports to continuously improve throughput, reduce costs/expenses and increase profitability and maximum metal recovery.

    Implements operational goals based on monthly projections set by management.
    Administrative ManagementInterviews prospective production employees.
    Reviews performance of employees.
    Monitors supervisory practices to ensure compliance with HR policies and union contracts.
    Monitors and maintain hourly staff at cost effective and competitive levels.
    Work with Human Resources personnel to prepare job descriptions.


    Internal Control Responsibilities:


    Supports the Company's Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures and controls to better relate to the business.

    Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.


    Supervisory Responsibility:
    This position directly supervises Shredder Operations employees on multiple shifts

    Interpersonal Contacts:


    Internal contact with Joint Product Manager, Terminal Operations Manager, Regional Purchasing Manager, Maintenance Manager, Day & Night shift supervisors and Warehouse Supervisor, facility and regional Commercial Teams, Regional Safety Engineer(s) and Regional Environmental Manager.

    External contacts include suppliers and equipment manufacturers.


    Job Conditions:


    Regular exposure to all weather conditions, and physical hazards due to the presence of heavy equipment and machinery in the yard and the presence of scrap itself.

    This position may operate 5 to 6 days a week or as needed and may require overtime hours to perform.

    Handle multiple issues regarding scheduling, safety, and maintenance increases pressure.

    Physical Activities Required to Perform

    Essential Functions:

    Able to:

    sit, stand, or walk for up to 12 hours per day; bend, crouch; climb, balance, push/pull, lift or carry up to 50 pounds; hand and finger dexterity to grasp tools and equipment parts to make repairs; able to negotiate over and around uneven surfaces as would be found at a treatment plant.

    Visual acuity for close inspection of documents, schematics, and equipment parts for repairs.


    Qualifications:
    High school diploma or equivalent. 5-10 years of manufacturing work experience, with 2-5 years of managerial experience. Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing processes required. Prior experience managing and leading a work crew is necessary. Maintenance background preferred. Previous exposure to working within a unionized environment is a plus. This is a specialized job that requires intensive in-house training. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a professional manner. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook. Successful candidate will have previously been involved with continuous improvement initiatives with documented success. Must exhibit analytical skills to manage production metrics and implement new technologies. Must have experience managing a departmental budget, justifying capital expenditures and measuring return on investment.

    Ability and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; deal with problems involving several specific variables in or from standard situations.

    Previous experience working on shredders.

    Changing hammers, liners, and knowledge of Hydraulic equipment/systems is requiredPLEASE NOTE:
