    Job DescriptionThe First Bank and Trust Company is seeking a qualified Agricultural Lender for Eastern, Virginia. The candidate will have the ability to cover a wide geographic area. Responsibilities include developing new relationships with agricultural producers and agri-businesses as well as other professionals in related fields.

    Agricultural knowledge and/or background is required. A minimum of 3-5 years of lending experience is preferred. A Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field is preferred. The qualified candidate must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    POSITION SUMMARY: Expands the Bank's agricultural and commercial loan portfolio in Eastern Virginia in accordance with the Bank's strategic plan, credit culture and core values. Establishes, maximizes and maintains positive relationships with existing and potential customers.

    LOCATION: Hanover, Virginia or Tappahannock, Virginia

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Actively develops new business. Keeps abreast of pertinent market and regulatory developments and identifies current and potential lending markets. Assists with the development and implementation of plans and programs to respond to those developments and target desired markets.
    • Facilitates negotiation with customer, both new and existing, according to established standards, such as loan repayment options and other credit terms. Refers and/or presents loans for approval in excess of individual loan approval authority. Ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy. Assures timely loan closing and funding activities.
    • Maintains a portfolio of existing customers and relationships as needed to accommodate annual new business. Ensures that all needed data and information is received in accordance with policy and compliance.
    • Working with Credit Administration and Loan Operations, ensures that applicant data is analyzed to determine feasibility of granting loan. Corresponds with/ or interviews applicant or creditor to resolve questions regarding application information.
    • Works to achieve agricultural and commercial lending goals for region in compliance with overall Bank growth and profitability objectives. Abides by established lending policies, programs, and operating plans to assure achievement of established lending goals and objectives.
    • Ensures all loans are originated, processed, closed and serviced in accordance with established lending policies and regulatory requirements. Assists and promotes the centralization of credit administration and loan operations, ensuring the customer service quality is not compromised.
    • Actively involved in community to promote Bank and assists in making community directed decisions.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's Degree - Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field
    • Work Experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree
    • Agricultural knowledge and/or background
    • Lending experience preferred

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical work environment, travel to customer locations and branches in the serving area.
