Job Description
TITLE:

DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES
JOB SUMMARY:
QUALIFICATIONS:
To evaluate and diagnose the educational,
social, emotional and behavioral functioning of students
and provide recommendations for intervention.
1. Massachusetts certification as School Psychologist
2. Masters degree required, CAGS in School Psychology preferred
3. Three year's experience working within a school/clinical setting
4. Knowledge ofDEA regulations
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Implements all aspects of Child Find: referring, screening, evaluating,
diagnosing and recommending intervention strategies for students who are at-
risk for learning, social, emotional and behavioral and developmental
disabilities.
2. Completes all assessments, including written report within timelines mandated
by IDEA.
3. Consults with administration, staff and families regarding interventions and
strategies for at-risk students.
4. Participates and reports results to IEP/504 eligibility meetings.
5. Participates as a member of the building-based Child Study Teams
6. Observes students in their learning environments, as requested
7. Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans
8. Provides of direct clinical services to students, as needed
9. Participates in professional development opportunities to stay current with
evaluation instruments and tools.

I. Special Education Evaluations: Initial, 3-year re evaluations, screenings,
observations; write assessment reports; (outside evaluators to assist as needed)

• Interpret Independent Education Evaluations (IEE)
2. Student Study Team
• Participate as team member
3. Resource/consultant to special and regular education staff in the public and private
school settings
• Instructional strategies; accommodations/modifications
• Progress monitoring
• Assessment practices
• Social/emotional issues
• Parents and families
• Counseling referrals
4. Response to Intervention process
• Oversee and assist to implement
• Pre referral process as a first step before sped evaluation referral
5. Benchmark screening process for K-5
• Oversee and assist to conduct screenings (Aimsweb ); organizing materials,
training staff, administering and scoring assessments, data input, interpretation
and dissemination of data collected
6. Team meeting process
• Participate as a team member
• Serve as Director Special Services designee as needed
• Chair meetings as needed
• Assist with Specific Learning Disabilities forms
• Assist/facilitate the Eligibility Determination process; RT, 504, IEP
• Assist with transitions; especially grades pre to K, 5 to 6, 8 to 9
7. Counseling and Crisis Intervention
• Small group/individual counseling; problem solving
