    Job Title

    Urban Planner II or III

    We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Urban Planner II or III to join our Community Development team in shaping vibrant suburban communities.

    This role offers the opportunity to lead transformative projects, guide long-range planning efforts, and collaborate with stakeholders to create a thriving future for our growing municipality.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Respond to inquiries from the public and other departments regarding zoning, ordinances, and codes related to development regulation and long-range planning.
    • Provide assistance to applicants through the development review process, including organizing and leading meetings among staff and applicants.
    • Review applications and make recommendations to the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals to ensure compliance with Unified Development Code regulations.
    • Conduct research and draft amendments to the Unified Development Code for consideration by the Planning Commission and Governing Body.
    • Work with Building Division to ensure planning-related conditions are addressed, including reviewing occupancy permits and managing letters of credit or other sureties.
    • Collaborate with Community Standards Division to ensure compliance with applicable Unified Development Code requirements, including writing notices of violation and following up with citations to Municipal Court.
    • Prepare and present staff reports and technical memorandums for the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals involving fact-finding and analysis to provide alternatives for policymakers to consider.

    Qualifications & Compensation

    Planner II: $60,508 - $70,145 per year, dependent on qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, or a related field.
    2. At least four years of experience in the planning profession.
    3. Valid driver's license required.
    4. NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training completion within three months of employment.

    Planner III: $71,705 - $83,126 per year, dependent on qualifications:

    1. EITHER: Master's and certificate in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration, or a related field, plus six years of experience.
    2. OR: Bachelor's and certificate in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, public administration, or a related field, plus eight years of experience.
    3. Valid driver's license required.
    4. NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training completion within three months of employment.
