    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The ASC Patient Service Representative I is responsible for coordinating clerical tasks such as answering the phones, greeting patients and visitors in a professional and timely manner. They are responsible for moving the patients through the intake and checkout process including patient registration, collecting co-payments, deductibles, and any other patient owed account balance. The front desk specialist also must ensure that all procedures, from pulling correct patient files to charting insurance information, are closely followed so that the medical team can concentrate on the well-being of patients.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ?
    • Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person or over the phone. ?
    • Responsible for keeping the area clean and organized. ?
    • Registers new patient and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information including personal and financial information (ex. co-payments and insurance cards). ?
    • Collects patient past due balances. ?
    • Ensures that all necessary patient forms are provided and filled out for surgery. ?
    • Responsible for directing patients and family members to allocated area. Monitors lobby and waiting areas. ?
    • Facilitates the patient flow by notifying the provider or other medical staff of the patients' arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and clinical staff. ?
    • Communicates wait times with patients and family members when necessary. ?
    • Communicates with OR staff to direct the patient's family member/friend to the consulting room following surgery. If the patients' family member/friend is away from the building, they will communicate with the surgeon on how to reach them. ?
    • Keeps medical office supplies adequately stocked by anticipating inventory needs, placing orders, and monitoring office equipment. ?
    • Ensures that all medical records are accurate and complete. ?
    • Ensures compliance of healthcare regulations, medical laws and maintain high ethical standards. ?
    • Regularly adheres to and support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse. ?
    • Performs other position related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES ?
    • Must have strong computer skills to handle clerical tasks, including basic knowledge of the internet and working with Microsoft Office software including Word, and Outlook.
    • Previous experience with electronic Health Records (EMR Software) required. ?
    • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking abilities, and the ability to perform well in stressful situations. ?
    • Model customer service oriented behavior and exhibit excellent interpersonal relations skills. ?
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines. ?
    • Ability to follow established office routines and policies. ?
    • Ability to keep financial records and perform mathematical tasks. ?
    • Knowledge of medical terminology. ?
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. ?

    • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS ?
    • High school diploma or equivalent required. ?
    • Some college work preferred.
    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS ?

    Minimum of 1-3 years' customer service experience required; experience in a physician office setting preferably within the urology specialty (preferred). ?

    Basic knowledge and understanding of CPT procedure coding and ICD-10 diagnostic coding preferred.
