    Core Role and Responsibilities:
    Performs a variety of complex assignments associated with managing & controlling computer operating systems. Sets up & maintains more than one type of computer system, including virtual machine technology. Analyzes system faults & troubleshoots & runs diagnostic tests on operating systems & hardware. Evaluates & installs developed software during testing phases. Reviews & prepares documentation for systems, tests, & software installation. Investigates & recommends methods & techniques for obtaining solutions. Initiates preventive maintenance on operating systems and repair to system/environment problems. Administers/oversees systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules critical to program success. Plans system/environment requirements for individual projects.

    Essential Job Functions:


    Performs a variety of difficult assignments associated with monitoring and controlling computer operating systems where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.

    Sets up and maintains both physical and virtual computer systems running various operating systems including Windows, Linux, and Unix.
    Analyzes system faults and troubleshoots and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems.
    Reviews and prepares documentation for systems, tests, and installation of software.
    Investigates and recommends methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
    Initiates preventive maintenance on the operating systems as well as repair to any system/environment problems.
    Administers systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules.
    Interfaces with vendors for trouble calls.

    Functions as a project focal point in new systems development, representing project desires in the design, assisting during testing, training operations staff, and providing technical expertise post implementation.

    Performs systems performance analysis tasks coordinating those activities with Systems Engineers and makes subsequent recommendations to management concerning hardware upgrades.

    Regularly interacts with customer and/or functional per group managers.
    Monitors system activities and performs tasks related to user access controls and security.
    Makes recommendations and/or develops security procedures for EDC management.
    Develops both manual and where applicable, automated procedures relating to system administration, database administration, system management and user support.
    Guides the technical efforts of less experienced staff.
    Performs other duties and overtime as assigned.

    Education:
    BS/BA/MS

    Experience:
    BS/BA 0-2+
    MS +2

    Special Skills/Requirements:
    Work toward advanced relevant technical certification (VMware, Microsoft, RedHat, AWS, Security+, CISSP, etc.)
    ITIL 4 Foundation Certification within first 12 months of employment desired
    Knowledge of Agile project management methodologies

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    Three

    years

    of continuous residency in the US

    for issuance of a Government Security credential

    The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account.

    to the DOI EROS Data Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Full-time remote is not available for this position.
