    BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:

    The Success Coach will play a key role in supporting the academic and career success of transitioning Servicemembers, Veterans and their families that utilize the services of SVA's Advising Center. Coaches will report to and work closely with the Director of the SVA Advising Center to help guide transitioning Servicemembers, Veterans and their families on a career pathway by leveraging SVA's online career and education pathway tool and providing advice and resources to help them identify the education and/or credentials needed for their desired career. Coaches will also share partner resources and information on financial and education benefits that can support the success of the student or user.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coach transitioning Servicemembers, Veterans and their families on career and education options using online appointment systems, Microsoft Teams meetings, phone calls, online chat and email.
    • Access and provide guidance on SVA's online tool(s) to view user profiles, skills, military training and experience, and then help translate that to career and education pathways and recommendations.
    • Utilize Salesforce to organize, record and maintain detailed accounts of user interactions including phone calls, coaching appointments, chats, emails, and helpdesk cases.
    • Aid in development, maintenance and creation of reports of users, appointments, interactions, outcomes and other data points, as desired.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of college and university admissions tools, best practices and Veteran student policies.
    • Stay informed on and articulate VA education benefits, eligibility requirements, how to apply for and access benefits and how to contact the VA for support.
    • Stay informed and networked with the SVA Career Center in order to articulate SVA partnership opportunities for careers, internships, mentorships, and fellowships.
    • Articulate the benefits of, and how to access, SVA chapter support on campus to prospective or current higher education students.
    • Articulate to users the opportunities, benefits, and how to access SVA's other resources.
    • Participate in continued development of the Advising Center and training with Coaching Team peers, the Director of the SVA Advising Center and SVA HQ staff and leadership.
    • Participate in assessment and survey efforts to gauge the SVA Advising Center's performance and student success.
    • Occasional evening and weekend work hours and overnight travel required, including full attendance and support at SVA's Annual National Conference.
    • Other duties as needed and assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree or three (3) or more years' experience working with Servicemembers and Veterans in an academic or career support setting.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Ability to efficiently work independently and also as part of a team.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in higher education settings.
    • Experience with enrollment counseling, academic advising or career coaching.
    • Knowledge of how to access a Joint Services Transcript (JST), Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript, Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) document.
    • Knowledge of student development and student success initiatives for military-connected students.
    • Experience using a CRM; Salesforce preferred.
    • Experience using Microsoft and Adobe Suites.
    • Understanding of and empathetic to the needs of diverse and non-traditional students.
    • Demonstrate competence and skills in utilizing and adapting to new technologies.
