- Bachelor's degree preferably in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations.
- 10-15 years of experience in a communications, journalism, or public relations role.
- Experience managing and executing across several communications media outlets.
- Communicating effectively and thinking strategically.
- Knowledge of local government and the political process. Criminal justice exposure/knowledge is a plus.
- Excellent written and public speaking skills.
- Skill in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with the NCDAO's communication strategy.
- Skill in creating new and better ways to be successful in managing the NCDAO's communications.
- Work collaboratively with the NCDAO's Executive Team to understand the NCDAO's vision and develop strategies to effectively communicate to both internal and external audiences.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the NCDAO, including internal and external communications that align with the NCDAO's overall vision.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, media representatives, community leaders, and local enforcement agencies.
- Act as the principal spokesperson for the NCDAO and manage all media inquiries including critical or sensitive requests.
- Develop and advance stories that promote awareness of the NCDAO's programs, initiatives, community engagement, and employee successes.
- Compose and edit speeches and press releases for the District Attorney.
- Draft and disseminate to media outlets and NCDAO staff press releases on significant news-worthy matters.
- Cull and disseminate news clippings from various media outlets to NCDAO staff via email.
- Manage and write content for the NCDAO's website, social media platforms, and newsletter.
- Oversee the drafting and publication of the NCDAO Annual Report.
