    The Putney School is seeking a Director of Counseling and Wellness to begin on July 1, 2024. The Director oversees all mental health services, including direct services, mental health and wellness-related student programming, and mental health and wellness-related faculty training and professional development at The Putney School. About The Putney School: Putney is a progressive boarding school for 230 hardworking and curious students in Putney, Vermont. Hands-on learning is embedded in the school's culture: a working dairy farm, expansive arts offerings, a robust work program, miles of wooded trails, and large solar arrays serve our curriculum. Putney recognizes this is difficult, communal work, and the school supports all its employees in developing this critical skill set. Responsibilities:
    • Provide individual counseling services to students.
    • Provide as-needed crisis intervention, assessment, and referral services.
    • Conduct group support and psychoeducational sessions.
    • Provide parent support and coaching as needed.
    • Develop and nurture a network of outpatient providers.
    • Participate in internal and external team meetings to provide expert consultation regarding mental health issues.
    • Supervise the Mental Health Counselor position, both clinically and administratively.
    • Work closely with the Health Services Coordinator to identify pressing student wellness needs and problem-solve health and mental health-related challenges for both individual students and the community as a whole.
    • Design and implement evidence-based, developmentally appropriate interventions and systems proactively and in response to student mental health and wellness needs.
    • When requested by admissions counselors, assist in evaluating the appropriateness of candidates for admission with a lens on mental health conditions.
    • Actively participate in School's DEIJB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, Belonging) initiatives.
    • Be available outside of the traditional school day, such as evenings and/or weekends, to triage emergency situations that may arise.

    Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology, with the appropriate Vermont state licensure in good standing.
    • A minimum of five years working with adolescents, and a minimum of three years working in a school or outpatient treatment setting.
    • Ideal candidates will possess strong leadership aptitude and an understanding of the joys and challenges of boarding school life.
