    The role

    G-Research is a fast-growing, data-driven organisation. We use large-scale deployments of distributed systems to drive research and monitoring capabilities within the business.


    We are looking for an experienced Compute Windows Engineer who will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing our Windows-based infrastructure, which underpins our platform.

    You will cover a breadth of activities from managing and upgrading the current applications, to researching and implementing new technologies.


    We place a strong emphasis on 'Infrastructure as Code' and automation pipelines, alongside advanced troubleshooting and performance monitoring of the Windows estate.

    Key responsibilities of the role include:

    Automating zero-touch Windows build and decommission, using tools such as Ansible, Packer, Jenkins or similar
    Managing the lifecycle of Windows based infrastructure, including patching, using tools such asMicrosoft WSUS, and software package deployment tools
    Developing tooling to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of our Windows infrastructure as part of the wider platform
    Managing Microsoft Remote Desktop Services infrastructure
    Implementing and maintaining security best practices
    Maintaining detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and policies

    Who are we looking for?

    We are seeking an experienced Compute Engineer with a strong Windows engineering background and exceptional problem-solving skills.

    The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

    Strong automation skills using tools such as PowerShell, Python and Ansible
    Knowledge of CI / CD and GitOps principles
    Experience with managing Microsoft Active Directory, including core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP and PKI
    Experience with virtualisation environments, such as VMware vSphere
    Experience with monitoring tooling, such as Prometheus and Grafana
    Experience with secret management tools, such as Hashicorp Vault or similar
    Advanced troubleshooting skills.
    Familiarity with Azure and AWS cloud technologies is beneficial
