    Position Summary


    The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care to patients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital emergency department, providers will be also credentialed and may work at our community sites, including Barnes West County and Missouri Baptist Emergency Departments.

    Variable work schedule which includes day, night, and weekend shifts.

    Job Description

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities


    • Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history and examining patients; develops diagnostic plan and interprets results; provides treatment for acute and chronic disease conditions; develops and implements patient-centered plan of care in collaboration with patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers and others as appropriate to the patient's condition; collaborates with emergency physicians as needed for complex or high acuity patients.
    • Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources; may perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations.
    • May bill for services covered by collaborative practice agreement.
    • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
    • Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records; maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
    • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
    • Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
    • Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care.
    • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
    Working Conditions/Schedule/Locations


    Emergency Department environment, with exposure to patient elements, prolonged extensive or considerable standing/walking, lifting and moving patients, supplies and equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications


    • Nurse practitioner/Physician Assistant with 3+ years practicing in an emergency department setting.
    • Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.
    Required Qualifications

    Nurse Practitioner


    • Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Advanced Practical Nurse licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire.
    • Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
    • Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).

    Physician Assistant


    • Graduate of PA program.
    • Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on location or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.
    • Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
    • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
    Grade

    S30

    Salary Range

    $84, $152,300.00 / Annually

    The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.

    Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
