    Job purpose
    The Network Engineer position directs and coordinates network and computerized management information systems and staff.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Fully support, configure, maintain, and upgrade corporate networks and in house servers
    Configure, install, and integrate routers, firewalls, and switches
    Install and integrate new server hardware and applications
    Keep an eye out for needed updates
    Support and administer third-party applications
    Ensure network security and connectivity
    Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency) and test for weaknesses
    Assist as Tier II support to set up user accounts, permissions, and passwords
    Assist as Tier II support to resolve problems reported by end users
    Define network policies and procedures
    Specify system requirements and design solutions
    Research and make recommendations on server system administration
    Assist as Tier II support for 2-way radio programing
    Cell phone /VOIP phone configuration
    Prepare and maintain documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts
    Introduce users to office productivity applications
    Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery plans
    Perform analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
    Competencies Proven experience in a Network Engineer role

    Hands on experience in networking, routing, and switching
    Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure
    Experience with firewalls, Internet VPN's, remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution is desired
    Ability to set up and configure server hardware
    Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
    Great at organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking
    This is a non-Supervisory role
    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment on the shipyard. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Routinely, there will be a need for the incumbent to work/walk Lyon shipyard and all areas therein.

    Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and or weekend work.

    Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
    Required Education and Experience
    Associates degree in Computer Science or related field of at least 5 years' experience as network/systems engineer.
