    Job Description

    Marshall University's School of Theatre and Dance is seeking applications a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Theatre Technology/Technical Direction beginning August 2024.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing scenic technology and technical management for all productions; teaching courses in technical theatre, design, and general theatre; and contributing to the University's general education curriculum and its emphasis on using high-impact teaching practices, particularly those affiliated with one (or more) of the institution's pedagogical initiatives (e.g., Community-based Learning, Critical Thinking, First Year Seminar, Writing Across Curriculum, etc.).

    Additionally, the ideal candidate will contribute to the College's support of interdisciplinary programs of study.

    Qualifications
    Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
    Required Qualifications
    Education
    PhD or MFA in technical direction, theatre technology, or a related area of theatre.

    Experience
    Two or more years of experience in a university setting.
    Three to five years of experience in professional theatre.
    Strong interest and knowledge in construction and fabrication.
    Design experience. Portfolio review upon request.
    Experience in budgetary management.
    Industry knowledge of design, construction, and technology practices across multiple disciplines.
    Academic experience in teaching, mentorship, and/or leadership.
    Theatrical experience, either in an educational or professional setting.
    Industry knowledge and hands-on experience in technology practices, design, and construction/fabrication.
    Extensive knowledge of safe equipment uses and safety standards.
    Proficiency in drafting skills and the use of CAD, VectorWorks, or related technology.
    Collaborative and open attitude with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
    Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
    Ability to recruit and retain students with design/tech/management career interests.
    Demonstrated responsible leadership, judgment, and the ability to build a positive and inclusive work environment.
