    The Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in psychology.

    Applicants must have completed an APA accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and an APA accredited psychology internship and be eligible for licensure in the state of Georgia.


    We are especially interested in a candidate to join our Dialectical Behavior Therapy team and provide services to adults and adolescents in our outpatient clinic.

    Candidates who are also trained in other evidence-based approaches, including trauma-focused therapies and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, are especially welcome.

    Our department houses an APA accredited psychology internship program as well as psychology post-doctoral fellowship positions. Successful candidates would be expected to serve as a supervisor in the internship with opportunities to train other learners. Support would also be offered for facilitating pre-clinical medical student case-based learning small groups.

    Responsibilities

    Clinical Responsibilities 90%


    Maintain a steady, clinical caseload in the Psychiatry and Health Behavior Outpatient clinic and participate in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy consultation team.

    Teaching Responsibilities 10%

    Teaching and supervision of psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and medical students

    Required Qualifications


    • Doctoral degree (Ph.
    D./Psy.
    D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology

    • Training and Experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
    • Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training
    • Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
    Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:


    • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements for institutional accreditation;
    • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
    • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
    • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
    • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

    Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

    The Psychology Service in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia includes 11 faculty psychologists in addition to psychologists located in other departments and other affiliated institutions.

    Our psychology faculty represent diverse areas of clinical specialty including health psychology, HIV, LGBTQ health disparities, child clinical psychology, PTSD/trauma, women¿s issues, suicidal behavior, and contextual behavioral science.

    The department has been part of an APA-accredited psychology internship consortium since 1983 and through the years our faculty have shared a deep commitment to our common missions of educating our future health care professionals, striving for compassionate and excellent clinical service, and advancing science.
