    Description

    What You'll Do:

    This position is responsible for supporting the accounting function of the Credit Union. As an Accountant I you will use your knowledge to perform daily general ledger postings and account reconciliations while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Accountant I assists in the month-end close process.

    Essential Functions:

    • Perform general ledger account reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts on daily, weekly, and/or month-end basis using third-party supporting documentation
    • Receive and verify employee expense reports through Certify
    • Receive and review vendor invoices to verify authenticity while ensuring accurate posting to proper general ledger and cost center
    • Prepare vendor payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursement
    • Prepare journal entries or vouchers for daily transactions ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Ensure invoice approval according to organizational policies and procedures
    • Record costs of new assets and track depreciated value of existing assets
    • Assist in monthly, quarterly, an annual accounting close process
    • Research general ledger transaction postings to assist with non-accounting department inquiries
    • Possess effective knowledge of the Credit Union's products and services
    • Maintain familiarity with and follow all policies, procedures and processes which have been established in order to meet compliance requirements of all applicable federal regulations. The regulations include but are not limited to the Privacy Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Reg. CC and Patriot Act

    Who you are:

    • Required: BBA or BS in Accounting and 0 to 2 years of experience
    • Required: General working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Preferred: CPA candidate or willingness to actively pursue CPA within designated time
    • Working Knowledge of spreadsheet development and use
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications
