    Lilly Neuroscience is seeking an experienced scientist to join the Neurodegeneration team to facilitate its mission of discovering novel medicines for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, ALS, and other related neurodegenerative conditions. The individual will lead a laboratory focused on cutting-edge histological and imaging techniques to support our expanding neurodegeneration portfolio and they will leverage their expertise in neurodegeneration research for the identification/development of novel targets in close collaboration with other Neurodegeneration laboratories and, Lilly's chemistry, novel modality, and biotherapeutic engineering divisions. A key focus of the researcher will be the establishment and utilization of an extensive array of imaging/histological techniques to support therapeutic investigations in multiple pre-clinical animal models. Importantly, the individual will have access to many technical specialty groups within Lilly to facilitate their research. The scientist must possess a deep understanding of the pathophysiological processes that underlie neurodegenerative conditions and must be a strong leader that maintains excellent communication and organizational skills.     Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Lead a discovery histology/imaging focused laboratory with multiple associate scientists.
  • Design and execute preclinical in vivo and in vitro studies for traditional and novel therapeutic modalities.
  • Perform discovery studies to elucidate novel targets and build internal expertise.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams for preclinical development of therapeutics and contribute as an integral team member for clinical development (discovery through full clinical translation).
  • Leverage extensive drug discovery expertise to influence internal and external thought leaders across the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Basic Requirements:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, or a related field with 5 to 10+ years of industry or academic work experience.
  • Additional Preferences:

  • Extensive experience in developing/optimizing histological assays required for the evaluation of the in vivo studies and experience in designing/performing in vitro and in vivo studies with cutting edge imaging techniques.
  • Strong publication record in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Track record of leading histology/imaging lab with multiple associates.
  • Extensive understanding of assay development.
  • Deep understanding of Neurodegeneration literature.
  • Cell biology expertise.
  • Drug development experience.
  • Target engagement biomarker discovery experience.
  • Strong communication/presentation/leadership skills.
