Job summary
This position is a hybrid role transitioning between a Patient Care Technician and a Unit Clerk.This role involves direct patient care services on a specific unit under the supervision of an RN or Case Manager.
This includes providing personal care and assisting with the implementation of selected portions of a care plan including respiratory services, rehabilitation services, and phlebotomy under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse.Maintains supply levels for units , reports unit needs for housekeeping hospitality maintenance services. Maintains confidentiality protects sensitive data at all times , including patient information proprietary information personnel information . Formulates implements accurate timely care Assists patients activities daily living Takes vital signs weighs patients collects routine urine specimens cleans catch specimens stool specimens sputum specimens
- Maintains patient safety infection control standards promotes safe therapeutic environment high-quality patient care
- Cleans prepares rooms between procedures discharges monitors restocks supplies
- Opens sterile supplies sets up procedures Performs EKGs Promotes safe therapeutic environment Documents reports outcome patient care activities charts observations vital signs assigned patients legible accurate appropriate format hospital unit procedures Checks equipment supplies accessories regular basis notifies personnel equipment malfunctions repairs needed Participates orientation new program personnel ongoing in-service education team Performs finger sticks Exhibits excellence customer service attitude interaction patients visitors staff Receives initiates directs telephone calls messages Assists visitors staff patients providing directions hospital locations calling escort necessary Participates quality initiatives Operates personal computer calculator FAX machine copy machine scanner related office machinery Receives dispatches communications phone intercom Vocera fax mail Messages flowers newspapers items notifies appropriate personnel verifies discharged returns flower deliveries discharged verifies have been discharged delivers arranges delivery items to correct people Facilitates radiological procedures protocol assists radiology staff established protocols May serve instructor other Unit Clerks provides orientation guidance assist departmental orientations Processes maintains records admissions transfers discharges deaths Orders supplies directed Schedules appointments surgeries lab collections other procedures notifies appropriately Archives copies image data requested transfers images computer applications Assists transport when necessary Adheres supports TMCH values integrity community compassion dedication TMC organizational department-specific safety confidentiality policies standards Performs related duties assigned Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION High school diploma GED equivalent combination relevant experience EXPERIENCE One year Patient Care experience acute setting No experience completed one semester clinicals accredited nursing program completed formal Patient Care Tech program obtained Certified Nursing Assistant CNA certification obtained Licensed Nursing Assistant LNA licensure LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION Basic Life Support BLS certification Additional certifications may required per department Knowledge Skills Abilities Knowledge general practice methods regulations Customer service skills greeting assisting phone person Attending caring attention needs Assist more complex programs Multi tasking priorities critical first Ability recognize distress follow directions get assistance Read interpret documents operating instructions manuals Complete routine reports correspondence Listen accurately others communication take action Speak effectively doctors nurses public Add subtract multiply divide whole numbers fractions decimals Apply common sense situations Deal problems standardized situations Applicants basic computer familiarity ability operate office equipment technology perform duties
