Safety Coordinator - St Louis

Job description
Company OverviewBefore we opened Strive Pharmacy we were unsatisfied with the current state of the pharmaceutical industry. Most of the current pharmaceuticals only offer a one size fits all approach and often come with unwanted and potentially dangerous side effects. We found that through compounding we can offer a much more personalized solution to medicine.
Through this we have been able to help patients get the results they are seeking for their personal needs. After years of working for corporate chains we took the risk and opened Strive Pharmacy. We are dedicated to providing a better experience for each customer and clinic that we work with. Come see the Strive difference.
Our Mission
We're flipping the script with personal medicine. We strive to interrupt an industry that has been closed to personalized care, accessibility, and nuance for too long. We strive to shift a reactive view of self-care and ignite a proactive baseline-shifting approach to health for all. 'The human element' is our crux and catalyst, driving all that we do, whether we're interacting with patients, providers, or practices. We're here to partner with those ready for a change. More than a compounding pharmacy, we're on a mission to positively disrupt healthcare as we know it. Strive is about more than medicine. Strive is about striving for the personal side of healthcare.
Position Type: Full-Time, Hybrid (3-4 days on-site, 1-2 days remote)
Location: Fenton, MO
Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
Position Overview:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Safety Manager in the day-to-day administration and continuous improvement of the organization's Safety and Health Program. This role serves as a key technical resource for developing standardized policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that protect our employees across both pharmaceutical pharmacy settings and industrial warehouse environments. This role will support the Fenton location locally and the network as a whole.
Key Responsibilities:
- Policy & SOP Development: Draft, revise, and implement comprehensive safety policies and SOPs. Focus areas include hazardous drug handling (USP <800>), Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) operations, machine safeguarding, and emergency response.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify gaps in current safety protocols and lead initiatives to enhance the safety culture. Work to standardize safety systems and work practices across all organization sites to ensure a unified safety experience.
- Site Safety Assessments: Perform regular, documented site safety inspections and audits of the pharmacy and warehouse floors. Evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls and verify adherence to OSHA, EPA, and state-specific regulations.
- Hazard Identification & Control: Proactively identify physical, chemical, and ergonomic hazards. Collaborate with operations teams to implement the "Hierarchy of Controls" (Elimination, Substitution, Engineering, Administrative, or PPE).
- Safety Training: Assist in the continuous improvement of an engaging safety program. Deliver training to diverse audiences, including pharmacy technicians, warehouse associates, and leadership teams (e.g., Spill Response, Respiratory Protection, and Utility Knife Safety).
- Network Collaboration: Participate in and/or lead safety meetings with teams across the network. Facilitate the sharing of "Lessons Learned" and best practices between sites.
- Compliance Administration: Assist in the maintenance of documentation required for regulatory compliance, including fit testing and online medical evaluations for respirator users, and data collection for reporting.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate safety incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Emergency Preparedness: Lead emergency drill training and ensure all employees understand emergency response procedures.
- Experience: 1-4 years of experience in an EHS or Safety role. Experience in a dual-environment (Healthcare/Clinical + Industrial/Logistics) is preferred.
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., ASP, GSP, or OHST) is a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry) and familiarity with pharmaceutical standards preferred (e.g., NIOSH, USP).
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional departments. Adequate writing/typing skills for SOP development and the ability to present safety topics to varied group sizes and audiences.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to spend significant time walking and standing in both pharmacy (clean room/lab) and warehouse (industrial) environments. May require lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Project Management: Ability to implement standardized systems across multiple locations or departments.
- Occasional routine travel to sites to perform assessments or facilitate training.
