    This position is funded through the school year by the Texas Dyslexia Grant Award Program. Continuation of the position beyond the school year is contingent upon grant completion and available funding. The Dyslexia Coach must complete the scope of work for the position described in the approved Dyslexia Grant Award Program application proposal submitted to Education Service Center (see Primary Purpose and Roles below).

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    The Dyslexia Coach will coordinate and lead professional development regarding dyslexia (and related disorders), oversee instructional materials for the CCISD dyslexia program, observe classroom instruction and provide feedback to the dyslexia teachers, and maintain district data and progress monitoring for students with dyslexia.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum Education/Certification:
    Valid Teaching Certificate
    3 years prior successful experience as a dyslexia (and related disorders) classroom teacher

    Preferred Experience:
    Successful experience leading professional development trainings either at the campus or district level
    Successful experience mentoring and/or coaching teachers

    ROLE 1: INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
    1. Facilitates the planning, evaluation, and delivery of CCISD's dyslexia program for grades K-12.
    2. Improves teaching and learning through co-teaching, instructional coaching, collaboration in lesson planning, providing feedback on instruction, monitoring the delivery of curriculum, and analyzing student work and performance data to make informed instructional decisions.
    3. Maintains records, monitors the progress of students, and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge dyslexia program effectiveness.
    4. Assists in ordering and inventorying curricular, instructional, and assessment materials for the district dyslexia program.
    ROLE 2: SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE & IMPROVEMENT
    1. Serves as a support and resource person to the dyslexia teachers, reading interventionists, building principal(s), office of Special Education, and Chief of Instructional Support regarding the district dyslexia program guidelines and student data.
    2. Displays a professional image of maturity and emotional control.
    3. Assists in developing campus master schedules and ensures that students with dyslexia and related disorders are appropriately placed in classes.
    4. Assists with the budget relating to the dyslexia program needs, staff development, curriculum, instructional delivery, and assessment.
    5. Ensures classroom environments are conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    6. Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating district and campus improvement plans.
    7. Provides training, monitoring, and mentoring support to campus Section 504 coordinators.
    8. Assists the Special Education Department with implementing and monitoring the screening, referral, and assessment processes for dyslexia and related disorders.
    9. Assists the Special Education Department with developing and monitoring timelines, implementation and compliance related to federal regulations and state guidelines for dyslexia.
    ROLE 3: PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
    1. Schedules and facilitates dyslexia team meetings.
    2. Organizes, plans, and facilitates relevant professional development aligned to the CCISD Dyslexia Grant.
    3. Mentors new teachers and works to develop capacity of all teachers in the dyslexia and related disorders program.
    4. Assists principals and the Chief of Instructional Support in the supervision of campus dyslexia teachers.
    5. Participates in the recruitment, selection, and training of personnel.
    ROLE 4: SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
    1. Uses appropriate and effective techniques (including ongoing dyslexia training) to encourage community and parent involvement.
    2. Develops parent information either as send-home flyers, events, workshops, or awareness sessions.
    3. Participates at school functions and extracurricular activities pertaining to the dyslexia and related disorders program.
    4. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issues.
    5. Utilizes effective follow-up approaches and techniques in referring students and parents to available school and community services.
    ROLE 5: TECHNOLOGY
    1. Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
    2. Models utilization of district software programs in accordance with district policy and administrative guidelines.
    3. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the school management and instructional/assessment software for students and staff.
    ROLE 6: PROFESSIONAL GROWTH and DEVELOPMENT
    1. Develops needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
    2. Provides leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursues professional development activities, disseminates ideas and information to other professionals.
    3. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
    4. Exhibits punctuality and dependability in performing responsibilities.
    5. Projects a positive attitude about self and professional responsibilities.
