    Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to perform a variety of tasks related to structural welding and fabrication. The ideal candidate will have experience with gas-metal arc, flux-cored arc, gas-tungsten arc, submerged arc, and shielded metal arc welding processes.

    Responsibilities:

    • Laying out, aligning, and welding components according to blueprints and metallurgy.
    • Selecting type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
    • Planning layouts, assembly, and welding using knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, and welding techniques.
    • Bolting, clamping, and welding together metal components of products such as piping systems, plate, pipe, and tube or structural shapes.
    • Tack welding assemblies together.
    • Connecting cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as specified by procedure or supervisor.
    • Obtaining specified electrode and inserting electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
    • Starting power supply to produce electric current.
    • Striking arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
    • Manually guiding electrode or gun along weld-line, maintaining length of arc and speed and movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
    • Cleaning or degreasing weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
    • Repairing broken or cracked parts and filling holes.
    • Removing excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder, or power chipper.
    • Preheating work piece, using hand torch or heating furnace.
    • Cutting metal plates or structural shapes.
    • Examining weld for bead size and other specifications.
    • Loading, transporting, and unloading material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
    • Assisting in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
    • Performing minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
    • Assisting other mechanics as needed.
    • Complying with all safety and project rules.
    • Performing other duties as requested.

    Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Previous years of experience in the field or in a related area
    • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
    • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
    • Capability of certifying on multi-process pipe
    • Proficiency in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes
    • Making decisions based on measurable criteria
    • Applying basic mathematics to solve problems
    • Planning work and selecting proper tools
    • Visualizing objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings
    • Comparing and seeing differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects
