    Description

    Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a Staff Therapist position with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) within the Community Health and Well-Being Unit of the Division of Student Affairs. This Staff Therapist position is a full-time, 12-month position reporting directly to the Psychotherapy Program Director.

    The Staff Therapist will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of mental health counselors, licensed social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, trainees, and administrative professionals in a department with increased focus on integrating global social justice perspectives in culturally sensitive community well-being.

    Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical services (e.g., individual and group psychotherapy) for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Provide additional clinical services, including crisis intervention, on-call after hours rotation coverage, and triage services.

    • Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Consult with students, faculty and staff, families and parents, and other providers regarding mental health issues or concerns.
  • Provide clinical supervision to doctoral level psychology staff and/or interns, and/or other trainees.
  • Assist in educational programming for trainees (e.g., practicum trainees, doctoral and master's level interns, psychiatric residents).
  • Offer outreach programming to the campus community.
  • Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other client contacts, in compliance with ethics, law, and best practices.
  • Participate in department, divisional, and other University committees as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in regular CAPS staff meetings, divisional meetings, case conferences, and in-service/professional development training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related mental health field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Minimum three years of experience working as a provider in a mental health care environment (practica, internship, and postdoctoral experience may be used to meet this requirement).
  • License-eligible in professional discipline in the State of Pennsylvania. If not currently licensed, must be independently licensed in professional discipline in the State of Pennsylvania within 6-months of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with marginalized identities.
  • Demonstrated experience in culturally sensitive diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention and risk assessment, and brief psychotherapy.
  • Demonstrated experience as a culturally sensitive presenter and programmer of educational or outreach events.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage conflict with cultural humility, clear professional boundaries, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural elements that influence self- and other-awareness and clinical practices.

    • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently hold an active, unrestricted license as a doctoral-level psychologist in the State of Pennsylvania or hold such a license from another state and can obtain a Pennsylvania license within 3-months of hire.
  • Experience working as a clinician in a college/university mental health center.
  • Successful completion of a supervised doctoral internship accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) with a minimum of 2000 hours.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Expertise and experience promoting mental health awareness and well-being initiatives, and engaging in advocacy for students with marginalized identities, including international students.
