    Description


    Lead Supply Technician at Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Summary This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) area of Logistics Service at the Boise VA Medical Center.

    Responsibilities Major duties include, but are not limited to:
    Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload Monitors status and progress of work, makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems Checks on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review Reviews completed work to see that supervisor instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met Monitors working conditions Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems or issues Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services Pulls stock inventory and material from main inventory for delivery and replenishes stock inventory Maintains records on stock levels and recommends revisions in stock levels Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the Inventory Management Specialists Performs daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems Delivers supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring that supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition Completes specialty cart preparation and stocking Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards Supports wall-to-wall inventories Receives supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system Returns reusable supplies to the distribution area, and informs clinic and ward personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical supply resources, and shelf life Work may require the operation of a government owned motor vehicle Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements and specialized experience within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 12/07/2023.

    Time-In-Grade Requirement:

    Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

    For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

    If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

    In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

    You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

    Specialized Experience:

    You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

    Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

    Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.


    Driver's License Requirement:

    A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Leadership Reasoning Technical Competence Technology Application Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).

    Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


    Note:
    A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
