OUR STORY:
We work with families who are facing some of the toughest and most gut-wrenching situations in life:
(1) the placement of a family member - mother, father, husband, wife - in a nursing home. They are terrified that their loved one will not get the care that he or she needs and deserves or, worse yet, that they will run out of money within a short period of time and not be able to afford that care.
(2) the death of a family member. Not only are they dealing with an emotional loss, but now
have to navigate the legal and financial systems to wind up the loved one's personal and
financial affairs.
Our job is to help these families through these difficult times.
We also help families with estate planning (wills and trusts) and other probate matters such as guardianships and disability planning.
BACKGROUND & SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for a special person to work with our older adult clients and their families.
General: After training, you will have direct client interaction. Empathy is important. You will be dealing with families and older adults in stressful situations. Your role will be similar to a nurse who is helping patients get ready for an appointment with a doctor - gathering vital information, helping to formulate a care plan, and then following through with the prescribed course of action. You will be the bridge between the client and the attorney. Visits to hospitals, nursing homes or the client's home may be necessary.
Communication Skills: You must have strong communications skills, both written and verbal. You will be communicating (in person, by phone and email) with clients, financial institutions and government offices.
Computer Skills: You need to be proficient in using Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with PracticePanther, our calendar, case management, document assembly and billing system, would be a significant plus but not a requirement.
People Skills: Besides working with clients, you will be dealing with caseworkers, court clerks, other government offices and financial institutions. You will need to be able to obtain information and respond to inquiries both professionally and courteously.
Organizational Skills: Organizational skills, attention to detail and dependability are required to succeed in this position. You will be the primary contact person with the client and others associated with the client's case - under the supervision of the attorney. For this reason the ability to multitask is essential.
Other: Paralegal experience or training or a degree in accounting would be helpful. Normal Hours - M-F 8 AM to 5 PM. Due to the nature of our practice, occasionally time outside normal hours may be needed to properly care for the client.
