    Job Title

    The Cost Estimating Engineer plays a critical role in the Basco-Schmidt Applications Engineering & Aftermarket Sales teams by participating in cost estimation functions. This position emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement of current processes and methodologies.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Standard Product Cost Estimates: Collaborate with Applications and Aftermarket teams to prepare accurate and competitive material & labor product cost estimates, identifying areas for cost improvement.
    • Cost Model Development: Analyze engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to develop comprehensive cost models using standardized parts.
    • Costing Software Maintenance: Maintain accurate and updated information in costing software programs, collaborating with Sourcing and Purchasing groups to ensure data inputs are current and reflective of market trends.
    • Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with Manufacturing to keep Sales informed on labor standards as new tooling, equipment, and/or processes are implemented on the factory floor.
    • Project Proposals: Prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for project proposals, providing detailed and accurate cost breakdowns to support sales efforts and customer negotiations.
    • Cost Variance Tracking: Track contract cost variances and help reconcile discrepancies between actual and estimated costs with Sales and Contract Administration personnel.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Inside Sales Assistance: Provide as-needed assistance with quoting and sales of price book and/or aftermarket products.
    • Special Projects: Undertake special projects and other tasks as directed by the supervisor.

    Requirements:

    • Education: Degree in Engineering Technology, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience acceptable. Relevant certifications (e.g., AACE International Certified Cost Estimator) are a plus.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost estimating or a similar role within a manufacturing environment. Experience with cost estimation software and ERP systems is highly desirable.
    • Skills:
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
      • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, BOM's, and specifications.
      • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
      • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

    Work Environment:

    The Cost Estimating Engineer works primarily in an office setting within a manufacturing facility. The role may require occasional visits to the production floor and supplier sites, with regular interaction with various departments, including Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Project Management.

    Reporting Structure:

    This position reports to the Applications Engineering Manager, with dotted line accountability to the Aftermarket Manager, and Purchasing Manager.

    Benefits:
