    Description

    1. Design, plan and deliver coherent instruction using prescribed unit and lesson structures that align with state standards and emerging best practices, in addition to meeting student's needs as required in IEPs.

    2. Evaluate students' progress toward their IEP goals through data collection, student work and observation.

    3. Develop and continually update learning resources that are culturally relevant and are grounded in the practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    4. Implementation of our PBIS and restorative practices program.

    5. Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students at the juvenile detention center.

    6. Utilize innovative and engaging teaching strategies to capture the attention of students.

    7. Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a safe and conducive learning environment.

    8. Address behavioral challenges and disruptions in a calm and professional manner.

    9. Collaborate with support staff to ensure a secure and controlled classroom setting.

    10. Assess the educational needs of individual students and create personalized learning plans.

    11. Provide extra support for students who may be behind academically or have special educational requirements.

    12. Work closely with other educators, counselors, and support staff to address the holistic needs of students.

    13. Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and develop intervention strategies.

    14. Be prepared to handle crisis situations and emergencies within the detention center environment.

    15. Collaborate with the center's staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

    16. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and academic performance.

    17. Generate reports for administrators, probation officers, or other relevant stakeholders as required.

    18. Stay informed about the latest educational practices, especially those relevant to working with students that are justice involved.

    19. Attend professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

    20. Ensure compliance with educational policies and procedures within the juvenile detention center.

    21. Stay informed about any legal or regulatory requirements related to education in detention settings.

    22. Cover for absent teachers as needed.

    23. Adhere to safe school practices.

    24. Perform non-instructional duties as may be required.

    25. Prepare and achieve annual performance expectations as prescribed or approved by the supervising administrator.

    *It's important to note that working in a juvenile detention center may involve additional training, background checks, and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by the students in this environment. The ability to empathize, provide support, and maintain a positive approach is crucial for success in this role.

    Qualifications


    1. Valid PA certifications in Mathematics 7-12, Social Studies 7-12, Biology 7-12, ELA
    2. Through knowledge of Special Education process and instruction is preferred.
    3. Evidence of teaching in an interdisciplinary team construct.
    4. Knowledge of and interest in implementing non-traditional best practices related to school design, student scheduling, classroom instruction, and student assessment.
    5. Evidence of using instructional technology. Capable of advancing the integration of instructional technology into the curriculum.
    6. Successful experience working with students who are facing challenges is preferred.
    7. Possesses highly refined communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

    8. Organizational skills, initiative, and an ability to work with limited supervision.

    9. Ability and experience in working as a member of a team.


    1. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Google Docs, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.
    2. Such additions and alterations to the above qualifications as the Program Administrator and Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
    3. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

    13. Ability to comply with the AIU/Shuman Conduct policy and belief system.
