- High school diploma or equivalency
- 48 college hours or passing the state-mandated Paraprofessional assessments is required

- Serve as a major source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Maintain ethical and confidential behavior about the students, learning environment and school
- Conduct inventories
- Lead groups of students in such activities as rope making, arts and crafts, archery, canoeing, orienteering, hiking and nature study (specific to environmental education para)
- Play the piano to accompany groups and individuals
