    About the Position:


    As a Senior Tax Accountant with Cologix you will be responsible for preparing and/or assisting with the preparation of timely and accurate US and Canadian federal, state, provincial returns, supporting workpapers and journal entries.

    You will prepare or assist with the preparation of the global income tax provision calculations, journal entries, footnote disclosures and any corresponding documentation.

    And you will support various financial and tax audits and inquiries, tax incentive compliance and a variety of other tasks and projects as assigned.

    The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of and experience with US and Canadian tax laws, tax accounting under US GAAP, as well as strong system and communication skills.


    What you do daily:


    Prepare US federal and state returnsPrepare or assist with Canadian federal and provincial returnsPrepare or assist with global income tax provision calculations and footnote disclosures and corresponding documentation.

    Preparation of excel based workpapers to support US and Canadian tax calculations and book / tax differences as well as transfer pricing calculationsPrepare or assist with journal entries for tax provision, tax payments, and transfer pricingGather and summarize accounting income statements, balance sheets, trial balance reports, and transaction details to support income tax compliance calculationsFixed asset report creation from NetSuite accounting module for US tax depreciation upload, review, and reconciliation to book amountsPerform Canadian tax depreciation calculations, review and reconciliation to book amounts with assistance from Tax Director as applicableGather fixed asset information and other accounting support for outside consultants and advisors in support of property tax and specific income tax or indirect tax related planning or issue resolution effortsCollaborate with accounting team to gather necessary information, resolve tax related issues, and respond to financial statement and governmental auditsAssist in closing government notices with proper document retentionMaintain and/or support the maintenance of tax compliance calendar to ensure timely and complete complianceContinuous improvement to the tax return and tax provision processes each yearProvide tax guidance to accounting, executive, and payroll teams as necessaryThis is a hands on role preparing workpapers, using software, and preparing documentation and communication necessary to resolve and close tax issues primarily in the income tax areaThis role will also support:

    Sales, use, and VAT decisions and tax return compliance review, tax incentive applications and related maintenance requirements as well property tax research and compliance supportWhat makes you a good fit: (Qualifications)Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting from an accredited university with a Master of Taxation PreferredCertified Public Accountant, active or inactive license is acceptable4 or more years of US corporate income tax compliance / tax return experience, US partnership reporting, Canadian corporate income tax and/or partnership reporting experience4 or more years of income tax provision preparation including journal entries and footnotesExperience with multiple income tax compliance software packages required.

    CCH Axcess US income tax compliance software helpful.

    Experience with tax provision software beneficial as we evaluate implementation of software for tax provisionExperience with transfer pricing documentation, calculations, and concepts beneficial4 or more years of experience in a corporate environment or large accounting firm focused primarily on the above income tax areas (compliance and financial reporting for income tax)Solid understanding of US sales and use taxesCanadian VAT knowledge and experience extremely helpfulGeneral understanding of withholding tax concepts and rulesUnderstanding of the basic requirements for property tax compliance, financial reporting and paymentStrong understanding of tax technical research on a variety of research platforms for various tax types described aboveStrong excel skillsExcellent communication skills (both written and verbal) to interact effectively with various departments and functions including accounting, sales, operations, and executive teamsExperience with journal entries specific to tax in a variety of accounting systems.
