    Job Summary:


    The Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) will assume responsibility for the coordination and oversight of Point of Care testing, education, auditing, competency, and other quality assurance activities.

    The POCC's core mandate will be to ensure compliance with accreditation guidelines.


    Duties:
    Provides education and performs quality checks on all compliance and regulatory requirements.

    Also performs quality checks on institutional policies and procedures in order to maintain appropriate licensure and accreditation status for point of care testing.

    Ensures the establishment of appropriate point of care procedures throughout all phases of specimen handling, testing, resulting, and reporting.

    Serves as POC-testing resource and provides guidance and instruction in developing, monitoring, and maintaining testing sites' quality control programs to ensure the highest quality results to patients and physicians.

    Participates in the preparation of testing procedures and provides regulatory updates, as needed, according to accreditation guidelines and institutional requirements.

    Initiates procedure updates to meet regulatory accreditation standards and compliance standards.
    Participates in training, orientation and ongoing continuing education of personnel using point of care testing resources.
    Maintains records in regard to education, training, competency, quality control, nonconformance events, and corrective action.
    Coordinates with the executive to evaluate and recommend new instruments, products, procedures and methods.
    Takes an active role in the validation and verification efforts. Performs comparison studies as required by guidelines.


    Qualifications:
    High School Diploma or GED
    Certificate of completion from an accredited medical assistant program or a higher level of medical education from an accredited program
    2-3 years' experience as a Medical Assistant performing point of care testing in a lab or clinical care setting
    Working knowledge of Joint Commission/CLIA requirements for point of care testing
    Demonstrate the capacity to communicate effectively within a multi-functional team.
    Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    Experience in understanding and usage of computers as well as the ability to learn relevant applications.


    Required Certifications/ Licenses:
    Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    RMA administered by American Medical Technologists (AMT), or
    CMA administered by American Association of Medication Assistants (AAMA) , or
    CCMA administered by National Healthcare Association (NHA) , or
    NCMA administered by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
