Job description
5th Grade Teacher
School Year, starts August 5, 2026
SOAR's collective responsibility is to offer a holistic approach to education that implements rigorous academic instruction in conjunction with an active classroom. Our model challenges students to think critically and take active roles in their classrooms and communities. Our school gives students the academic and character-building skills they need as learners and leaders.
SOAR Vision: SOAR students create full and meaningful lives, enrich our democracy, and create a more just society.
Fifth grade is a culminating year in elementary school. Students are expected to think critically, communicate clearly, manage increasing academic demands, and take greater ownership of their learning—all while preparing for the transition to middle school. We are seeking a confident, reflective, and growth-minded 5th Grade Teacher who is committed to academic excellence, student leadership, and helping learners step into their next chapter with confidence.
About Our Community
Our school is a vibrant, inclusive environment where:
- Diversity is celebrated and centered
- Relationships come first
- Families are true partners
- Social-emotional learning and academics go hand in hand
- Educators collaborate, grow, and support one another
Fourth grade is where effort, instruction, and feedback begin to compound—and where strong teaching makes an unmistakable difference.
What You'll Do
As a 5th Grade Teacher, you will:
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in literacy, math, science, and social studies
- Strengthen advanced reading comprehension, analytical writing, and academic discourse
- Deepen mathematical reasoning through multi-step problem-solving and conceptual understanding
- Prepare students for upper-elementary and state assessments while maintaining meaningful, engaging instruction
- Explicitly teach organization, time management, self-advocacy, and study skills to support middle school readiness
- Foster student leadership, collaboration, and accountability
- Use assessment data to monitor progress, provide targeted interventions, and extend learning
- Create a structured classroom environment that promotes independence, perseverance, and productive struggle
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, interventionists, and special education staff
- Partner with families to support academic growth and the transition to middle school
- Communicate clearly with families about progress, expectations, and growth
Who You Are
You might be a great fit if you:
- Are motivated by student growth and progress over time
- Believe all students can meet grade-level expectations with effective instruction and support
- Have a strong understanding of upper elementary literacy and math progressions
- Use data as a tool for empowerment, not pressure
- Understand the academic and social demands of the middle school transition
- Embrace culturally responsive, inclusive teaching practices
- Are reflective, organized, and committed to continuous improvement
- Have a valid Teaching License
Why Join Us?

If you're excited to challenge students academically, cultivate leadership, and prepare learners for success beyond elementary school, we'd love to hear from you.
