    Full-time Description POSITION PURPOSE - NATURE AND SCOPE The hospitalist provides hospitalist services within the scope of practice of his/her specialty; adheres to all treatment, procedure, and medication guidelines as directed by hospital policies and state or federal law; conducts self in a professional manner, strictly following confidentiality policies and working cooperatively and supportively with other staff; PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Performs complete medical history and physical exam on patients.

    Establishes differential diagnosis. Orders appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures. Synthesizes data to determine primary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing established medical principles. Demonstrates the ability to recognize and critically assess any changes in patient's condition. Coordinates acquisition of outpatient records from primary care provider or referring provider. Acts as a liaison and facilitator between staff members, case managers, and attending physician regarding patients.

    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Rounds on patients ensuring all lab work, diagnostic results and other test results are available on chart.

    Facilitates coordination and development of a comprehensive and individual plan of care in collaboration with patient, family and multidisciplinary team.

    Facilitates one on one communication with primary care physician regarding current and ongoing patient care needs. Interprets and integrates patient data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.

    Prepares written prescription orders, medications, and controlled substances under the rules and regulations of the State of Washington and Federal DEA.

    Applies approved criteria to monitor appropriateness of hospital admissions and continued stays. Monitors implementation of guidelines for appropriateness of resources, trends and tracks guideline variances. Triages patient/family calls after discharge and up to first outpatient follow-up visit. Provides follow up with patient/family after discharge in conjunction with team member activity. Identifies appropriate venue for care within the continuum. Follows established procedures for computer. Follows manufacturer's guidelines for all equipment usage. Corrects situations that pose a threat to patient or staff safety. Ensures and maintains consensus related to entire hospital course from patient, family, physician and payer. Coordinates patient and family education with nursing staff, ancillary staff, and other resources. Communicates with patients/families to ensure understanding of discharge instructions. Formulates, implements and evaluates strategies for specialized education as it relates to patient care. Utilizes critical thinking and problem solving techniques. Is able to work independently, exercising sound judgment, discretion, and initiative to facilitate change. Dictates patient information in appropriate format and following established guidelines. Maintains daily progress notes using established guidelines. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Follows all established HIMS policies for maintenance and signing of medical records. Clinical health care services as per the scope of a physician in his/her specialty. Collaborates with other physicians on patient care when indicated. Arranges and coordinated referrals and consultations for patients. Prescribes and dispenses required medications in appropriate fashion.

    Explains the nature of the diagnosis, consequences if not treated, and the side effects of any prescribed or recommended treatment.

    Coordinates appropriate patient education. Promotes wellness and prevention of illness from a family-centered perspective. Is supportive and professional with all staff. Participates in quality control protocols and chart review. Learns and utilizes hospital billing process appropriately. Documents patient encounters in writing or dictation in a timely fashion, usually within 24 hours. Cooperates with hospital insurance carriers as requested in matters related to risk management and malpractice risk reduction.

    Participates in continuing education programs to maintain legally required hours for MD or DO license and for certification with his/her specialty board.

    Keeps clear documentation of continuing education hours. Participates in the establishment, evaluation, and revision of hospital and practice policies. Works toward established objectives of the organization. Requirements EDUCATION Board Certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or as a Hospitalist. For Nurse Practitioners certified by the ANCC within a year of employment.

    EXPERIENCE Minimum of two years experience in inpatient care in a Med/Surg hospital or a combination of inpatient and outpatient care that is equal as approved by the Administrator.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Licensed in the State of Washington as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Hold an unrestricted DEA license. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; delegate and coordinate through leadership skills. Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and educational levels; i.e. patients, families, employees, physicians, etc. Salary Description

    $125k to $180k DOE
