    Default job background
    Description

Artisan Insight is commercializing a deep tech innovation to fundamentally change the electronics industry. We are a team of experienced co-founders who have worked at companies like Flex, Uber, Verkada, Heptio, and Bridgewater. We have shipped code that runs on Mars, scaled the largest web services, and changed the way people get around cities. We are backed by exceptional investors who are committed to creating the next category defining company. We are hiring the first engineers who will work directly with the cofounders to define how we work and what we build. We are a small team with an ambitious vision and exciting technical challenges.

    WHAT WE VALUE:

Passion for your Craft: Show us your personal projects, your passions, your reason for being an engineer. We look for a maker's attitude and willingness to take on any challenge.

Learner's Mindset: We focus on learning and thrive in an environment with hard problems and frequent feedback. This role will stretch both the depth and breadth of your skills. You will work with incredible people on an incredible mission and learn by doing new things. As an early team member, you will have the freedom to set the culture and are expected to innovate.

High Standards & Continuous Self Improvement: We have high expectations colored by optimism. We prioritize learning, experiment often, and admit when we're wrong. We're doing something never tried before and value people who are comfortable with the unknown and want to figure things out together.

    THE ROLE:

We are hiring a manufacturing engineer to take us from the first prototype to mass production and automation. You will be responsible for assembling the initial proof of concept and working with top tier suppliers to create a high-yield production process. You will be expected to be hands-on in the lab and to create assemblies, processes, and operations that minimize cycle time and maximize performance. You intuitively understand how the products around you are made and have been on the production floor when things go wrong. You have a rolodex of suppliers and have leveraged them to build hard things. There is no one job listing that has developed our product; however, prior experience in consumer hardware with displays, antennas, PCBAs, and a host of PSAs would set you up for success. A list of other suggested qualifications is below.

    REQUIREMENTS & ATTRIBUTES:

    • 5+ years of experience
    • BS or MS in Mechanical engineering, physics, manufacturing engineering or related field
    • Advanced skills in Solidworks, NX, or Fusion with parametric modeling
    • Comfort with stress/strain curves and physics of materials
    • Exceptional greenfield design and assembly skills
    • Comfortable with equipment like microscopes, 3D printers, PSA, vacuum chucks, pumps, CNC machining, and basic chemistry
    • Experience working with an electrical engineering team to take a product through NPI
    • Strong knowledge of sealing and adhesion of dissimilar materials like plastic, glass, and metal
    • A good understanding of process capability and how to get a process in control
    • A good understanding of lithography and microfabrication
    • A willingness to stay hands on, be scrappy, and iterate fast

BONUS POINTS TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD:

    • COF, COG, or other design experience with high-resolution displays or touch panels
    • Clean room or laser processing experience
    • Experience in a wet lab
    • Materials handling and process automation
    • Defect analysis or FMEA

If you don't meet the exact requirements but have other reasons why you think you would be a good fit, we encourage you to apply and tell us about them. All applications will be reviewed and receive a response from a human.
