    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Dean of Culture: The Dean of Culture will serve as a support to our commitment to our BelovED staff and scholars by always adhering to 3 guiding principles:

    + Embrace our BelovED mission to pave the way for our scholars to create their unique path to college and a life of exploration;

    + Value authenticity, genuineness and collegiality in our interactions with each and how we embrace this work;

    + Recognize each persons unique value and contribution to the BelovED community and the fulfillment of its mission.

    The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the following:

    Expectations

    Deans of Culture are leaders in the Academy. Accordingly, they are expected to model expectations throughout the day. This includes but is not limited to:

    + Being a model of BelovEDs VIBE values

    + Promotion of positive school climate

    + Facilitating strong meetings (as needed) by having agendas prepared in advance and sending out action steps following each meeting

    + Being on time and present during meetings

    + Comply with HR protocols

    Student Discipline

    + Ensure DOS Office is constantly staffed by one Dean of Culture

    + Communicate home to families regarding consequences as needed

    + Issue consequences to students as needed

    + Ensures consequences are issued fairly and consistently based on the consequences chart

    + Monitor ISS room and ensure compliance

    + Communicate with teachers regarding consequences and work for students

    + Facilitate debriefs

    + Monitor scheduling of debriefsfollow up with Dept. Chairs as needed

    + Maintain fidelity of whole school initiatives and systems (ex. uniforms & ASR) and ensure expectations are upheld consistently

    + Follow up with teachers when inconsistencies arise

    + Establishes and maintains routines and procedures within the Deans Office

    + Organizes and maintains physical environment of the Deans Office

    + Develops and implements behavior plans to maximize student success

    + Coordinates Weekly Reports to be sent to families via DeansList

    Professional Development

    + Plan and facilitate culture PDs for staff during Summer Institute and throughout the year

    + Hold regular practice clinics for staff struggling with management

    Coaching

    The Dean of Culture is charged with responsibility for: The professional development and coaching of teachers relative to classroom management; Serving as an expert resource to teachers on issues of scholar culture, classroom management, discipline, and building a relationship with their scholars; Observing teacher performance in the classroom and providing teacher performance data to their academys Academic Dean / Principal, and to the Schools Director of Education / Head Principal, in connection with the evaluation of their academys teachers.

    + Provide culture support to struggling teachers

    + Observe at least 2 teachers per week who are struggling with management

    + Observations are logged in Whetstone and communicated to the teacher's primary coach (dept. chair)

    + Manage Social Work Department

    + Manage Grade Level Leaders

    + Coach 1-2 teachers as assigned by the Academy Lead

    Data

    + Review referral data and compare behavioral data to academic decline

    + Communicate behavioral data to staff

    + Ensure that grade level leaders are incorporating behavioral data into grade level initiatives

    + Manages the effective implementation of the DeansList program throughout the school

    + Review master grade report to identify trends between behavior and academics

    Community Circle/Event Planning

    + Oversee GLLs cultural event planning

    + Support the execution of grade level field trips and events

    Arrival/Dismissal/Lunch (Whole School Moments)

    + Provide consistent presence during whole school moments (arrival/dismissal/lunch)

    Requirements

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    It is critical that candidates possess:

    + A minimum of five years teaching and/or leading in a similar school environment;

    + Significant experience and proven success regarding the job responsibilities outlined above; and

    + A powerful commitment to the mission and goals of Beloved Community Charter School (you can read more about these at ).

    An understanding of Teach Like a Champion class-management techniques and/or training by Teach For America, Education Pioneers, The New Teacher Project, or New Leaders for New Schools would all be considered a definite plus.
