    Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

    Position Summary Information

    Job Description Summary
    The Senior Investigator, under the supervision of the Director of Equal Opportunity and Investigations, plays a crucial role in addressing and investigating reports of discrimination, harassment including sexual harassment, sexual violence, and other forms of prohibited conduct. This position involves close collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Team to ensure adherence to University policies and effective handling of grievances within the University community. Responsibilities include conducting prompt, thorough, and unbiased reviews, and investigations of complaints, and preparing detailed reports for the Director of Equal Opportunity and Investigations and HR Leadership.

    Responsibilities
    Reporting to the Director of Equal Opportunity and Investigations, the successful Senior Investigator will:
    Employee Care and Title IX (80%):
    • Assist in monitoring and addressing incidents/complaints and overseeing the University's response.
    • Work with various departments to investigate Title IX complaints and prepare for hearings.
    • Serve as the first point of contact for complex complaints, referring highly complex cases to the Director as needed.
    • Meet with involved parties to inform them about complaint processes, resources, and procedures.
    • Conduct administrative investigations and prepare impartial reports.
    • Ensure compliance with non-discrimination laws.
    • Provide regular updates on complaint statuses and investigations.
    • Assess complaints' nature and urgency and decide on appropriate actions.
    • Create investigation reports and devise remedies-based resolutions to prevent recurrence of issues.
    • Compile and analyze data for Chapman's Annual Security Report.
    • Maintain accurate and compliant case files and databases.
    Additional Duties (10%):
    • Develop and deliver educational programs on University policies and procedures.
    • Maintain effective communication with University partners.
    • Create and conduct training sessions on Equal Opportunity .
    Other Responsibilities (10%):
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned or requested.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree with three years of related experience.
    • In-depth knowledge of civil rights laws including Title IX, ADA, VAWA, SB-493, and Title VII.
    • Skilled in investigation methods
    • Ability to manage multiple cases.
    • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to apply judgment and maintain confidentiality.
    • Knowledge of labor and employment laws.
    • Experience working with diverse populations.
    • Training experience in discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
    • Familiarity with contract administration.
    Desired Qualifications
    • Master's degree in a related field.
    • Professional investigation experience in a university setting.
    • Experience with interpersonal violence and workplace harassment cases.
    • Understanding of the unique aspects of investigations in a university context.
