    This position will assist in leading our comprehensive safety program throughout the Silver Bay seafood processing facilities, which are primarily based in Alaska but also provide support and oversight for California processing facilities.

    This critical leadership role is crucial in developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of our comprehensive safety program.

    You will ensure unwavering compliance with both AKOSH (Alaska Occupational Safety and Health) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations, while fostering a culture of safety that prioritizes the well-being of our entire team.

    To be successful you master be a master at building trust and rapport with employees at all levels, fostering a collaborative safety culture where everyone feels empowered to speak up.

    Your strong leadership inspires a safety-first mindset throughout the organization.

    Help monitor workers compensation programs, claims and maintain metrics and training to adjust and develop training and procedures to assist with further improving our safety and claims experience.

    You lead by example and motivate employees to follow safety procedures.

    Essential Functions/QualificationsThe responsibilities of the position include the following:

    Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive safety program that addresses all aspects of our seafood processing operations, including slip/trip/fall prevention, machinery safety, respiratory protection, and bloodborne pathogens, ensuring compliance with AKOSH and OSHA regulations.

    Conduct regular safety inspections of the facility to identify and mitigate potential hazards, staying abreast of any specific requirements outlined by AKOSH.Investigate accidents and incidents, develop corrective action plans, and implement preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.

    Oversee the development and delivery of safety training programs for all employees, ensuring they understand safe work practices, emergency procedures, and any AKOSH-specific regulations relevant to the seafood industry.

    Maintain all required safety documentation, including accident reports, MSDS sheets, and training records, adhering to both AKOSH and OSHA filing guidelines.

    Stay current on all relevant AKOSH regulations, OSHA regulations, industry safety standards, and best practices.

    Work collaboratively with plant management and supervisors to integrate safety into all aspects of daily operations, ensuring adherence to both AKOSH and OSHA guidelines.

    Foster a positive safety culture by promoting employee engagement and open communication about safety concerns, emphasizing the importance of following both AKOSH and OSHA regulations.

    Oversight of Company workers' compensation program and claims administration with third party vendors.

    Create and maintain safety related metrics and reports to help drive a continuous improvement culture relating to safety and production.

    Navigate potentially difficult conversations regarding safety protocols, finding solutions that prioritize safety while respecting employee concerns

    Provide guidance and support to safety team members and employees, helping them develop their safety knowledge and skills.

    Education and ExperienceBachelors degree in occupational safety and health (OSH), Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role within the safety field, preferably in the seafood food processing industry.

    Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or willingness to obtain within a reasonable timeframe is a strong plus.
    In-depth knowledge of AKOSH regulations, OSHA regulations, and seafood industry safety standards.

    Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs, ensuring compliance with both AKOSH and OSHA.Work Environment and ScheduleThis position is based out of our Seattle, WA corporate office.

    Open to hybrid (for right candidate), would require at least 3 days per week in office.

    Due to the seasonal nature of the business, you should be prepared to travel to the processing facilities as needed to support the Company safety program and initiatives.

    The business needs can change and as such the candidate should be prepared to work in an operational role, suited to their area of expertisePhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.

    The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
    Mental ActivitiesThe employee is frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills. The employee needs to be able to discern details on timesheets and reconcile appropriate calculations. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail. The employee is occasionally required to use creativity, independent judgment, discretion, and problem analysis.
    Salary DisclosureThe typical base pay range for this role is $105,000-$115,000 per year.

    Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.
