    SUMMARY:

    The Certified Nursing Assistantis specially trained to give personal care and help the patient achieve a good quality of life through encouragement, social contact, companionship, and reassurance, under the guidance and supervision of the registered nurse. The Certified Nursing Assistantalso maintains patient confidentiality and promotes patient rights as supported by agency, state, and federal directives. Identifies cultural diversity and lifestyle choices and non-judgmentally accommodates for such differences. The Certified Nursing Assistant is committed to the philosophy, goals and objectives of the hospice concept while consistently demonstrating Hospice Savannah values and compliance with the organization's service excellence standards.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Georgia Nurse's Aide certification and CPR.
    • Two or more years of experience in hospice, hospital, skilled and assisted living facility, or home health providing direct patient care.
    • Valid driver's license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
    • Ability to successfully interact with a diverse patient population, families, physicians, Hospice Savannah staff, and the community at-large along with excellent customer service and documentation skills.
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook and database knowledge.
    • CHPNA preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Position requires minimal visual concentration for patient charting/documentation. Position carries a risk of exposure to infectious diseases requiring standard safety precautions.
    • The Certified Nursing Assistant requires extensive physical mobility and strength.
    • This includes the ability to ambulate or lift a patient with or without the assistance of devices in excess of 75 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • A full-time position works a 30–40-hour work week, rotating days, evenings, or weekends, with occasional requests to work additional days/hours/holidays as needed.
    • At times, due to patient census and acuity, this position may be required to remain on site at Hospice House during meal breaks.
    • The Homecare position is required to participate in a holiday rotation and may be required to provide care in what has been determined by local authorities as a high-risk crime area and unsafe situations (potential or actual).
    • This position encounters stressful situations with patients and their families regarding end-of-life care.
    • Although each Certified Nursing Assistant may be designated to a specific department/region in our service area, at times they may be required to serve patients outside of their department/specific region.
    • The Homecare Certified Nursing Assistant is required to use their personal vehicles to perform home visits and may require extensive driving.
