    Job Summary

    In collaboration with a physician, diagnoses and treats certain acute or chronic health conditions in the adult intensive care unit.

    Job Responsibilities
    • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
    • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies.
    • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers.
    • Provides counseling and education to patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and treatment options.
    • Provides care in the context of promoting age and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision-making, and the right to self-determination.
    • Provides accurate and timely documentation of assessment and patient care plan.
    • Assists with admissions, consults, daily progress notes, and transfers from critical care unit.
    • Coordinates care between medical specialties.
    • Participates in morning rounding with intensivist and rounding with the multidisciplinary intensive care team.
    • Assists intensivists with procedures which include central line and arterial line placement; additional procedures may include chest tube placement and thoracentesis with the pulmonologists/intensivists.
    • Assists with basic ventilator management.
    • Performs critical care ultrasound procedures.
    Qualifications
    • Master's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire
    • No experience required
    • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND
    • APRN - Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND
    • APRN - National certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) required upon hire OR
    • APRN - National certification from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) required upon hire OR
    • APRN - National certification from American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN) required upon hire AND
    • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire AND
    • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required upon hire
