    The Opportunity:

    The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop the mechanics of high-speed, automated packaging equipment throughout North America, from existing designs or accumulation of designs for optimum performance at the most economical costs. You will ensure projects are completed on time, to specifications, and preparing working drawings and bills of materials for standard manufacturing processes.

    How you will impact WestRock

    • Design of components and subassemblies used in high speed, automated packaging machinery.
    • Generation of mechanical layouts, sourcing components and generating BOMs.
    • Coordinating with project managers, manufacturing, supply chain and electrical engineers to ensure projects are completed to specifications.
    • Establishing relationships with customer facing organizations, vendors, and suppliers.
    • Drawing up budgets, schedules, education, and training.
    • Conducting root cause analysis, performing diagnostics, and troubleshooting equipment
    • Ensuring a safe, positive work environment.
    • Drive development projects by directing and influencing cross functional teams.
    • Manage subcontractors and their work to meet design requirements within project timelines.
    • Machine Production and Installation Support
    • Support the Technical Sales managers on platform production projects.
    • Respond to questions, troubleshoot, provide studies and estimates.
    • Provide cost effective solutions to problems affecting the customer product while maintaining the integrity of the design.
    • Reports to: Mechanical Engineering Manager, Directs: Draftsman or clerk, Indirect: Mechanics and Assemblers
    • Maintains internal relationship with fellow employees.
    • Maintains external relationships with Customer and their specific needs, Supplier Representatives and WestRock personnel.
    • Measurements of Performance:

    • Effectiveness in detail drawing communication
    • Accuracy in machinery designs, detail drawings, and calculations
    • Complete and accurate bills of materials
    • Meeting completion times for designs
    • Effective cost reduction designs
    • Quality workmanship

    What you need to succeed

    • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) from an ABET accredited program Required.
    • 3+ years of experience in mechanical and pneumatic designing of high-speed, automated machinery Required.
    • Experience with linear actuators, servo motors and gearboxes.
    • General understanding of ASME Y14.5 and GD&T
    • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
    • Packaging Machinery Equipment experience is a plus.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
    • Practical experience with CAD software, PLM systems and engineering change management. PTC Pro E / Creo / Windchill, AutoCAD Preferred
    • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
    • Excellent motivational skills and multitasking abilities.
    • 10% travel, including international to our sister plant in France.
