    Description

    JOB SUMMARY : Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of housekeeping duties focusing on proper floor cleaning in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment; and perform related work as required. Performs a variety of skilled custodian work requiring the knowledge of one or more skilled trades (, construction, painting, electrical, masonry, plumbing, ) under the general support of the Director of Facilities, to resolve Institutional operational and/or safety concerns; maintaining the Institution for students, faculty/staff and the general public in safe and operating condition. This is a full time, third shift position, Monday through Friday, 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM and includes benefits.

    CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures;
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, and/or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers;
  • Performs duties in and around campus facilities; implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of campus and community events; works closely with employees and the public to meet the custodial needs of the area; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations;
  • Strip, clean and buff floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets on an as needed basis;
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.;
  • Wash walls and equipment; use equipment in accordance with OSHA and other Institutional safety procedures when required in work assignments;
  • Lock and unlock assigned buildings: secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off ;
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of cleaning materials and supplies in accordance with OSHA and Institutional Safety Protocols;
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an as needed basis;
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and clean associated blinds on an as needed basis;
  • Handle trash and other recycling materials in accordance with proper disposal procedures;
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently;
  • Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety ( OSHA) and cleanliness, and identifying necessary repairs;
  • Repairing a variety of items and/or system components frequently of a complex nature (, cabinetry, doors and hardware, windows, classroom and office equipment and facility components) for the purpose of maintaining the Institution in a safe, comfortable and operating condition;
  • Performs a variety of facility and equipment repair and maintenance activities within areas of trade expertise (, electrical, heating/air conditioning, carpentry, plumbing, locksmithing, drywall, stucco, painting) for the purpose of ensuring that Institutional facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe and effective working order; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or needed to effectuate an effective and efficient department.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
    Education and experience equivalent to:

    Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.

    Experience: Two to five (2-5) years' of custodial and maintenance experience. Housekeeping and maintenance in a school setting with knowledge of cleaning products and use of floor, carpet cleaning equipment preferred.
