    Position Description and Qualifications

    Job Posting Summary:

    Ensworth seeks responsible and reliable CDL Bus Drivers to transport students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade to and from school on scheduled routes, field trips during the school day, and after school and weekend trips to support school activities. The ideal candidate should enjoy working with children, strictly observe passenger transport regulations, and regard passenger safety as the highest priority.

    Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
    • Abides by Ensworth's Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct
    • Commits to the ideals expressed in Ensworth's Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
    • Meets all deadlines associated with passing an annual D.O.T. medical examination and driver's license renewal
    • Reports to work on time as scheduled by supervisor and uses time tracking software accurately
    • Wears Ensworth issued uniform shirts and will launder his/her shirts at home as needed to maintain a clean and professional appearance
    • Immediately reports delays, incidents, and emergencies in accordance with school policy
    • Responds calmly and confidently to emergency and non-emergency situations
    • Completes administrative tasks in a timely manner including, but not limited to, pre-trip inspections, mileage logs, incident reports, etc.
    • Assists with loading and unloading of the bus when required
    • Enforces conduct and safety rules on the bus
    • Maintains a clean vehicle
    • Completes all random drug/alcohol screening tests within 24 hours of notification
    • Ensures proper vehicle maintenance and immediately reports any defects to the facilities department
    • Constant attention to traffic and weather conditions to ensure passenger safety
    • Follows the planned route and schedule for departure times and stop
    • Observes all safety and traffic rules
    • Maintains order among students while they are on the bus
    • Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications/Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Must be at least 25 years old due to insurance requirements
    • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) or School Bus (S) endorsements is required
    • At least three years of experience in CDL passenger driving, preferably with school age children
    • Basic understanding and ability to use computers and technology including mobile applications, GPS, and time-clocks.
    • Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co-workers, parents, alumni, volunteers, and the public.
    • Ability and desire to interact with K-12 students effectively, providing discipline and direction when necessary to ensure a safe environment on the bus; prior experience working with children is preferred
    • Adaptability, honesty, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, work ethic, problem-solving skills, and congeniality are essential.
    • Must successfully complete background screening and verification
    • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
    • Must hold a current personal auto insurance policy
    • Continued Education Programs (as required by Grade Level and/or position) - Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you, the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods, practices and any new knowledge in their respective field. Dependent on the program, such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.
    Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
    • Regularly works in standard bus conditions as well as outdoors in varying weather conditions and climate
    • Regularly uses close and distance vision to assess road conditions as well as to observe students from various distances; occasionally uses a computer or mobile device screen to complete administrative tasks
    • Regularly required to ascend and descend stairs and move around a bus; sits for long periods of time while driving; regularly required to move the body in various positions to perform pre-trip visual inspections
    • Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Occasionally works in a stressful environment; must demonstrate the ability to deal effectively and safely with a wide variety of challenges (e.g., hazardous road conditions, student behavior, traffic and delays, etc.) Must have the stamina to maintain the utmost vigilance while behind the wheel
    • Ability to frequently work flexible hours and/or split shifts to support before and after-school routes, activities, and/or weekend events
    • Ensworth requires employees to be physically present on campus during working hours, with limited exceptions that are at the sole discretion of the School. Remote work will not be allowed for this role.
