    JOB TITLE:

    JOB PURPOSE:
    As a member of the Finance Department, the Accountant:
    Provides accounting services to Youville House, under the direction of the Regional Controller


    CORE DUTIES AND DEPARTMENTAL EXPECTATIONS:
    Adhere to policies and procedures of Youville

    as well as policies specific to department
    Adhere to safety and health regulations and policies
    Assist in emergencies that occur in the residence
    Meet and exceed Youville standards for hospitality and services
    Incorporate the mission and philosophy of Youville into daily tasks
    Demonstrate sensitive communication skills
    Maintain confidentiality
    Organize and complete tasks effectively
    Report changes in resident behavior or unusual circumstances to CEO
    Perform all duties in a manner consistent with regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs
    Participate in continuing education as required by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs

    All staff are required to be good stewards of the environment by conserving energy and water resources, appropriately segregating solid, recycling, and bio-hazardous waste streams, and following all procedures for safe use of chemicals in the workplace.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Complete accounting duties according to generally acceptable accounting practices
    Performs accounting functions, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank deposits
    Completes reconciliations
    Payroll processing backup if Payroll Assistant and Human Resource Director not available to do so
    Prepares financial reports for the month end close and annual audits
    Assists Residents with billing issues
    Communicates issues of concern to the CEO


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Understand the rights and needs of older adults
    Communicate clearly with residents, staff, and families


    EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
    Minimum of an accounting certificate

    Minimum of three years experience performing accounting functions such as accounts payable, receivable, reconciliations as well as financial statement preparation.

    Proficiency in computer programs including spreadsheets, word processing, Microsoft Outlook and accounting software
    Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
    Ability to interact with compassion and understanding when dealing with older adults and their representatives


    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Possess good communication skills in English:
    Enabling interaction with coworkers and residents
    Sensitive listening skills, good comprehension, effective speaking ability
    Excellent reading and writing skills


    REASONING/JUDGEMENT ABILITY:
    Ability to think clearly, assess and follow up in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
    Must be patient and understanding of individual needs of residents and staff.

    These include physical, emotional and spiritual needs as related to the process of aging and adjustment to an assisted living setting.
