The Office of the Registrar is dedicated to ensuring that students make successful progress toward degree and graduation by providing the best possible service to all members of the diverse GW community.
The office maintains academic records from enrollment through graduation and offers a wide range of services in the areas of classroom scheduling, enrollment verification, registration, requirements tracking, transcripts, and degree conferral.
We support the university's mission to promote lifelong learning by administering the various academic policies of the university and providing support to students, faculty, administrators, and alumni.
Reporting to the University Registrar, the Deputy Registrar is a key partner in advancing the strategic priorities of George Washington University through ensuring the operational effectiveness of the Registrar's Office.
The position oversees the management of systems and operations that support student progress toward a degree, efficiency in academic records management and services, and provision and analysis of data to Schools to support student-centered academic planning.
The position requires a customer-service orientation, analytic and technological expertise to provide outcomes-oriented leadership to improve the student experience, and skill in staff supervision and development.
This position has responsibility for:
Developing and executing operational strategy for the office and providing leadership in technological solutions and enhancements to the student information system to ensure optimal efficiency; Contributing to division-wide initiatives to enhance the student experience through system enhancements and process efficiencies, data sharing, and best practices for registration and graduation; Leading and supervising staff directly, making hiring decisions, coaching, training, and mentoring, managing performance, and making recommendations on future staffing needs; Overseeing the implementation of academic policies and procedures concerning enrollment and graduation requirements with academic departments and schools; Cultivating relationships and serving on committees with academic and administrative constituencies, to integrate and analyze complex data to guide academic planning, implementation, or modifications to University policies and processes, and to positively impact successful student outcomes; Participating in identifying, clarifying, and resolving complex issues with university-wide impact and which span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge; Functioning as a data steward of academic records, enrollment verification, grade processing, university degree requirements, degree audit, and certification, test and transfer articulation; Monitoring operational activities to ensure data integrity and compliance with federal, university, academic, and administrative policies; Problem-solving, managing, and participating in daily activities and transactions of all aspects of the registrar's office, including operational efficiency, registration, course, and classroom scheduling, degree audit, and graduation; Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and student-centered service within the office; Collaborating with other departments to develop recommendations for the implementation of technology related to OTR in order to support an enhanced student experience; implementing innovative automated solutions for paper and electronic processes in order to increase efficiency and excellence in service.
Serving on behalf of the University Registrar as the primary point of contact on matters concerning FERPA and is the custodian of GW's student education records, responding to internal and external inquiries regarding complex federal, state, and University policies and procedures concerning student records; is responsible for ensuring the University's compliance with academic policies, federal, state, and campus policies while maintaining the security, integrity, and accuracy of academic records.
May represent the University Registrar on various committees in the development of regulations governing such areas as the academic calendar, grading system, curricula requirements, and enrollment management.
Performs other related duties as assigned.The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum QualificationsQualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 10 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 8 years of relevant professional experience.
Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of relevant experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00, some nights and weekends
