    The Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) is currently recruiting for a Physical Therapist to join the Public Health Services branch.

    This position will provide therapy services to disabled children in a school-based setting for the California Children's Medical Therapy Program.

    The Medical Therapy Program is a special program within California Children's Services that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and medical therapy conference services for children who have handicapping conditions, generally due to neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.

    This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill immediate and future vacancies throughout Tulare County's Human Services and Public Health branches.


    The Physical Therapist confers with the physician or senior therapist to determine types of treatment required in each case; adapts games, arts, and crafts as therapeutic treatment; and assists parents in understanding and handling children with chronic orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions.

    The chosen candidate will teach parents/caregivers and/or child exercises, activities, and techniques that will improve strength, range of motion, balance, equilibrium, stability, and functional mobility skills.

    The successful candidate will maintain relevant and timely documentation of treatments and services provided in accordance with the CCS Medical Therapy Program guidelines.


    Candidates accepting one of these positions may qualify to apply for a loan repayment of up to $25,000 for a 24-month work commitment.

    Typical Duties

    Key Responsibilities


    • Establishes treatment plans with functional goals and measurable objectives based upon evaluations and clinical observations incorporating concepts of family-centered care into the plan. Provides therapy treatment as prescribed by child's physician.
    • Confers and consults with other providers involved with child's care, including but not limited to school personnel, equipment and orthotic providers, and social service workers.
    • Educates parents and other caregivers re: home programs appropriate for child's needs.
    • Identifies needs and makes recommendations re: appropriate rehabilitation equipment and orthotics and ensures proper function and fit.
    • Participates in medical therapy conferences, staff meetings, in-services, and parent meetings.

    Candidates must meet the qualifications listed below by the application deadline.


    • Graduation from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved course in Physical Therapy.
    • License to practice as a physical therapist by the Physical Therapy Board of California.

    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening; furthermore, a background investigation may be conducted. Some job classes may also require a physical examination.
