- Assist in preparing attractive and nutritionally balanced meals and snacks that taste good to children.
- Ensure food is cooked and served appropriate to the age and development for each age group.
- Provide children with food allergies appropriate food and maintain proper systems including proper preparation to avoid cross-contamination, labeling, plating, and serving.
- Communicate with Chef to provide an efficient functioning food program.
- Ensure food supplies are properly stored and adhere to Health Department regulations.
- Ensure cooking utensils, plates, cups, equipment, and serving pieces are cleaned and sanitized and properly stored after each meal and snack.
- Maintain inventory of serving utensils, plates, cup and bowls and ensure adequate supply as center numbers change.
- Unload and store deliveries.
- Sweep and mop floors as scheduled and as needed due to spills.
- Wear proper cooking attire such as hair restraint, apron, gloves and adhere to center dress code policy.
- Assist Chef with proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment and report maintenance issues.

- Be 18 years of age
- High school diploma
- Food Handlers or Food Manager certification, must be obtained within 10 days of hire. YMCA will pay for and support earning it.
- Experience working in a kitchen, prepping fresh food and washing large quantities of dishes.
