- Complete a Pre-Trip inspection (lights, turn signals, horn, first-aid kit, ect).
- Ensures vehicle is clean and in proper working order.
- Assists in ensuring participant/staff ratio is maintained on the bus.
- Determines and follows safe and efficient driving routes.
- Ensures all car seats and children are securely strapped in according to state law.
- Maintains all transportation records required by the program.
- Operates the vehicle in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed and reports any traffic violations to the Director immediately.
- Ensures that the communication device (e.g. two-way radio, cellular phone if provided) is in proper working order before each trip.
- Ensures that the vehicle always has sufficient fuel.
- Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of vehicle (e.g., oil change); transporting the vehicle to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
- Ensures that vehicles are properly registered, insured, and equipped with necessary supplies such as a first aid kit, and parent contact information.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Required to take van safety course within 90 days of hire.
- Must have current CPR certification or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.
- 1 year experience in the Transportation field
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
- Ability to lift at least 50lbs (unassisted)
- Documentation of current and valid driver's license issued by DMV available.
