    DIAGNOSTIC TECHNICIAN
    • JOB TITLE: Diagnostic Automotive Technician.
    • REPORTS TO: General Manager.
    • SUPERVISES: N/A.
    • DEPARTMENT: Operations.
    • LOCATION: Applicable Store Locations.
    • FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt.

    PURPOSE:

    The Automotive Technician supports the organization by performing repair work and maintenance on customer vehicles in a safe and timely manner. Communicates needs for parts and provides the status of repair orders to the management team when requested.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Identifies mechanical problems, either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
    • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.
    • Performs routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
    • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
    • Performs further tests, which may include test driving the vehicle, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
    • Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
    • Plan and establish a timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
    • Provide timely communication with management and team members regarding status and applicable needs.
    • Record and report any damage to company or customer property immediately.
    • All other duties as assigned based on the needs of the business.

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
    • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
    • Excellent mechanical repair skills.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
    • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
    • Ability to read and comprehend service and repair manuals.
    • Ability to read and comprehend work orders.
    • Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
    • Must have the ability to perform work in a safe manner and adhere to safety policies.
    • Must have initiative and the ability to work in a team environment or independently.
    • Must be able to handle pressure and think clearly in all situations.

    REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Master technician certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence required.
    • Three to five years of related experience is highly desired.

    EXTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Customers.
    INTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
    • Frequent interaction within the work location, including but not limited to some interaction with corporate personnel as needed.

    WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USE:
    • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
    • Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
    • Must be able to inspect the vehicle to determine repairs needed.
    • Good vision to inspect repair work.
    • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
    • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when applicable.
