Job DescriptionDescription:General Statement of Duties
Performs routine tests in the medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and
treatment of disease.
Essential Job Functions
Performs blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups.
Obtains the correct amount and type of specimen. Labels and records test tubes,
specimen logs, and temperature logs. Completes appropriate routing, handling, and
processing of various medical specimens.
Interprets physician orders and secures a requisition before performing tests.
Perform drug screenings, including DOT. Performs postmortem specimen collection.
Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
Performs work in accordance with laboratory regulation standards.
Performs non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing,
contacting physician offices or offsite laboratories, answering phones, and utilizing email as
appropriate.
Provide superior customer service to patients.
Additional Job Functions
Complete online and in person training courses timely.
Participates in department or system performance improvement.
Completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by the service line,
facility, and department which are specific to the needs of the patient population served.
Supports the mission, vision, and values of Medina Healthcare System and always
demonstrates excellent customer service.
Understands and is committed to helping Medina Healthcare System achieve its goals.
Must learn, comply with, and enforce System and facility safety policies and rules. Must
always use appropriate safety equipment and procedures; must report all unsafe work
conditions to Director or Assistant Director; must be familiar with all safety features of
equipment, tools, or materials encompassed by job duties.
Adheres to Medina Healthcare System's Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical
behavior as expected by patients, colleagues, and the community. Understands the
personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules
regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.
Travel to Medina Healthcare System Rural Health Clinic sites when necessary.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Education
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certificate.
Experience
One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
Customer service in a service environment preferred.

Hazards
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic
or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid
conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is
usually moderate. The incumbent must fulfill the performance of standards of this
position and comply with the policies, rules and procedures of the System, facility, and
department.
