    The Ophthalmic Technologies Program is currently seeking a full-time tenure track Ophthalmic Dispensing Instructor to begin Fall Semester 2024. Teaching assignments include lectures and labs on Ophthalmic Dispensing, Ophthalmic Manufacturing, and Ophthalmic Management. Other professional related subspecialties such as contact lens lectures, labs, low vision and certification review courses may be assigned. Courses may be taught any time of day, evening, weekend, on-ground, online, and/or hybrid classes in accordance with the program's needs.

    The primary responsibilities of full-time teaching faculty are:
    • Teaching courses as assigned which correlate with the catalog descriptions and course outlines in a manner designed to assist the student to achieve the specific objectives of the course
    • Providing each student with a course outline
    • Prepare, schedule, and administer examinations, field trips, or other special activities
    • Evaluate student progress toward achievement of course goals and objectives
    • Information about office hour availability and appointment procedures
    • Advise students of requirements established by the instructor for meeting the course objectives
    • Ability to multi-task and work with multiple students in a lab setting
    • Proficient with computer applications and internet platforms
    • Periodically examine and inform students of their progress toward achieving the course's objectives
    • Advise students on matters which relate to: Supplemental reading or experience opportunities for further understanding of the subject
    • Research and recommend the revision, deletion, or addition of program courses to reflect the changes occurring within the subject
    • Participate in college accreditation processes, faculty development programs, voluntary peer evaluations in accordance with college procedure, grant writing activities appropriate to the department
    • Supervise students engaged in campus meetings, activities or events, scheduled as a part of instructional activities
    • Submit requests for textbooks, equipment, supplies, personnel, facilities, library materials and other resources necessary for the conduct of courses and programs
    • Attending faculty, program, and department meetings
    • Serve on program, department, and/or senate college committees
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population
    • Ability to collaborate with Program Director and other faculty in redesigning courses and/or teaching new courses
    • Assist the department chair in planning and conducting department affairs, selection, and orientation of new faculty, securing substitutes, and providing community groups and individuals with information regarding programs and courses
    The ideal candidate will posses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
    • Commitment to under-prepared and underrepresented student populations
    • Ensure student success with obtaining ABO/NCLE certifications and Nevada Optician licensure
    • Appropriate and up-to-date knowledge of Opticianry/Ophthalmic protocols, procedures, products, and practical applications
    Required Qualifications:
    • Associate Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing from a regionally accredited College/University OR
    • Nevada Licensed Optician/OD OR Equivalent State Licensed Optician JCAHPO Certified or ability to obtain certification within 1 year of employment
    • OD License with/ or ability to obtain ABO Basic, ABO Practical, ABO advanced Certifications within 1 year of employment
    • Nevada License Ophthalmic Dispenser
    • 5 years of recent optical dispensing experience
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited College/University in Education, Workforce Development, or Allied Health in addition to AAS Degree in Opticianry OR JCAHPO COT Certification or higher
    • ABO/NCLE certifications at the level of advanced or higher
    • 2 years of documented experience teaching ABO/NCLE/JCAHPO/COPE continuing education courses at the State or National level
    • 1 year experience teaching college level lectures and labs in the profession
    • Authorship or Co-authorship of Continuing Education courses/Training manuals in the field
    • Grant writing experience for obtaining lab equipment, learning materials, and cooperative agency/practitioner relationships
    • Familiarity with using online classroom management programs, to include Canvas
    Starting Salary Information:

    Tenure Track salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master's degree the salary range would be $46,691 to $58,364 annually. The entire salary range is up to $71,723 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years' experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
