    Description

    Job Title:

    Park Ranger Unit Second-in-Command

    The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the second-in-command of the Park Ranger Unit. This critical leadership position plays a vital role in ensuring the proper management, oversight, and consistency in the delivery of public safety and parkland security.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Chief Park Ranger in leading the Ranger Unit and act for the Chief Ranger in their absence.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure operational and administrative effectiveness.
    • Provide integration and operational oversight of all security infrastructure and new technology, including cameras, intrusion alarms, fire detection, key, and access control.
    • Manage all Sergeant training and mentoring, including Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) curricula and leadership development for shift supervisory improvement.
    • Develop and oversee the Park Ranger Dispatch Center as the central communication node for this Department, managing all first response to park incidents and coordinating with SFPD, SFSD, SFFD, and other partners.
    • Serve as an accurate information source for all Department leadership situational awareness.


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Management, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.
    • Three years of verifiable professional work experience overseeing staff in law enforcement, park ranger, military service, or security management who are engaged in protecting life and property, issuing citations, and/or performing legal code enforcement.
    • Possession of a valid California driver's license at the time of appointment.


    Estimated Salary:

    $120,000 - $160,000 per year
