    Job Description

    The Inclusive Media and UDL Specialist plays a critical role in cultivating and sustaining an accessible, equitable, and inclusive environment at Virginia Tech. Reporting to the Director of Universal Design for Learning & Accessibility Services, this forward-thinking position manages inclusive media services for the Accessible Technologies group within Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS). The Specialist's key responsibilities include coordinating processes and fulfilling client requests for closed captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions of both live events and pre-recorded media. The Specialist manages vendor partnerships, monitors expenses and usage, advises university leadership on inclusive media utilization, continuously assesses the impact of these services, and makes data-informed recommendations to improve them.

    The Specialist also supports the expansion of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) initiatives by assisting with professional development workshops, gathering feedback, promoting accessibility best practices, and expanding self-paced training opportunities under the UDL Director's guidance.

    The Specialist works closely with TLOS technology specialists to provide end-user support for a small portfolio of accessibility tools and platforms through workshops, on-demand training, individual consultations, and resolution of complex support requests received by Virginia Tech's help desk.

    Core Responsibilities:

    - Oversee and coordinate centralized inclusive media services, including captioning, transcription, and audio description to ensure equitable access to information for all members of the Virginia Tech community.

    - In collaboration with the Director of UDL & Accessibility Services, provide program expansion and participant support for Virginia Tech's Universal Design for Learning community of practice.

    - Facilitate the continued development of Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) training program by leading cohorts of participants at Virginia Tech.

    - Serve as product owner and primary contact for select accessibility tools and platforms, such as Anthology Ally and Glean.

    - Design and deliver professional development workshops (hybrid and face-to-face) on the topics of Universal Design for Learning and accessible technologies, in partnership with stakeholders across the university.

    Required Qualifications

    Master's degree, or equivalent level of combined educational and professional experience

    - Experience working with inclusive media (captioning, transcripts, and/or audio-descriptions)

    - Strong working knowledge of, and skills related to, instructional development, accessibility, and implementing the Universal Design for Learning framework

    - Experience training, scheduling, and facilitating project teams

    - Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and engage in proactive problem solving

    - Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools, and a demonstrated ability to quickly adopt new or emerging technologies

    - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience working in higher education

    - Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) certification

    - Experience with workflow, help desk, and issue tracking systems in a complex work environment

    - Experience working and collaborating with individuals with disabilities

    - Familiarity with federal and state regulations and requirements related to accessibility (ADA, Sections 504 and 508, etc.)

    Pay Band

    $60,000 - $70,000
